Three Teams Tied in WAC By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS The race for the top spot in the Western Athletic Conference is shaping up to be a tight one, with three teams possessing identical 3-1 records after games last weekend.

But Texas El Paso, Arizona and New Mexico will get a chance to break out of the three-way tie for first place in the WAC this weekend. And anything could happen, since Utah and Colorado State, both 2-1, far behind. New Mexico had led the WAC going into the weekend but lost to Arizona 80-79 to fall from the unbeaten ranks in league play. A 20-foot jumper by Herman Harris with two seconds remaining provided the winning margin for the Wildcats. 24 hours you can go downed Arizona State 69- hero to Lobos Coach Norm Ellenberger lamented.
