Writer Broward aging experts got their first look Tuesday at the details of a new state report on coping with burgeoning elderly population The experts said they are optimistic that the report which contains 240 recommendations will help keep the elderly out of nursing homes and lead to more research on tough problems like disease is the first time Florida has done something like this And about said Candy Rechtschaffer director of Area Agency on Aging Called to the Future" the report was prepared by a committee appointed last June by Gov Bob Graham The report was released in January It is being presented to local aging experts 'in meetings around the state The chief recommendation is that the state recruit businesses to employ more of elderly residents heard the need for involvement from the private said Becky Sisti director of the Northwest Focal Point Senior Center in Margate need to get larger corporations involved and form partnerships with -The report also said the state must spend more for programs designed to keep the elderly out of nursing homes The committee said the Community Care for the Elderly program which provides homemaker and respite care services should be granted $14 million during the next two years a substantial increase from present funding levels That heartened local officials was particularly hopeful when they mentioned the Community Care for
