u. Standard-Speaker, Sunday, October 24, 1999 C7. Local Theatre Junction prepares for Nov. performances hear the people out there." I U-. V.

I LA mMnvM jKj a only so much you can do," Moscovit said. "The main thrust is to get off the book." Moscovit stressed that an actor must learn his or her lines without the use of the book. "You have to learn it by heart," she said. "You have to be proficient so it just rolls off your tongue. That's when you learn the character." Once the lines are committed to a person's memory, the actor then is able to concentrate on the development of the character.

"We run it until it's in the body until it becomes part of them," Moscovit said. "Then the costumes come in." Some of the props, however, become part of the actors' practice routine almost immediately. "We try to get the props in early so the actors can get familiar with them," Moscovit said. The dress rehearsal for the actors usually comes about a week before the play opens. "A Bear and The Proposal" will run for nine shows Nov.

5 to 7, 12 to 14 and 19 to 21. The Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday shows at 2 p.m. The four actors said they felt excited and nervous about the upcoming shows. All agreed that the interaction that is felt between the actors on stage and the audience is an important part of theater.

"When you feel the exchange, it's exciting," Moscovit said. "You feel it when you're up there. You can't have theater without an audience." Symons agreed. But the actors must learn their lines in order to have the freedom to better understand their characters. The several props are fine for not as the actors prepare for their upcoming performances. But soon, it will be transformed into a realistic set where "heatre Junction will perform "A 3ear and The Proposal" by Anton Chekhov. "We've been practicing for a month now," Sasha Moscovit, Tamaqua AND AREA COMMUNITIES director, said. "This is the sixth year we've been around." For this year's performance, Moscovit and Grisha Eidinov, along with Paula Klein and Tommy Symons, will perform the Chekhov theatrical comedy. "A Bear and The Proposal" shows the twists a relationship between a man and a woman can take.

"We draw more to the older plays," Moscovit said. "But we do love a lot of the contemporary ones." During one Sunday evening practice session a few weeks ago, the group of four actors met at the historical Zion Baptist Church in Tuscarora to go over their lines and prepare for the show, which opens on Nov. 5 at the church. Saul (Continued from C5) She also had a question for me: Why aren't there signs on the highways leading to Hazleton reading "Welcome to Hazleton?" Some years ago I believe there were welcome signs on routes 309, 93, 940 and 924, but they have since disappeared. Sounds like a good project for the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce or a service club.

(An arm of the chamber, the Greater Hazleton Part.nprshin. is working on a "gateway project" along Route 924 as it approaches Broad Street.) My classmate also had a second question: When is the next Hazleton High School Class of 1943 reunion? The 57th anniversary reunion of the class will be held the weekend of Sept. 15, 2000, starting off with a pizza, hot dog, beer and soda social at the Hazleton Elks Lodge on Friday, Sept. 15. A dinner and program will be held at Genetti's Best Western Hall of Presidents the following night and a breakfast at Carmen's Restaurant Sunday morning.

Dom Imbriaco is president of the reunion committee. Food for thought Former TV anchorman Jim Jensen died recently at age 72 from an apparent heart attack. He was well respected in the business, but his life had more than a few bumps. Four years after he was divorced from his first wife, Ger-ga, his son, Randall, was killed in a hang-gliding accident. The incident led to a bout of depression and convinced him to take a leave The one-act play that will be done for "A Bear and The Proposal" is similar to others that The- atre Junction has done in its six years of existence.

The idea to form a local theater group came from Moscovit and 1 Dan Roth, who now is with the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble. Even though Roth left, The- -atre Junction continued. "We have a core of professionally trained actors," Moscovit said. "Eventually, we would like to make this a full-time proposition." There is, however, a require- ment for people to either participate in Theatre Junction's plays' or to become a member. "We hold auditions for readings," Moscovit said.

"They must be professionally trained, have professional experience, worked with us before, or have a goal to do this full time." The Theatre Junction's performances are made possible by a cooperative agreement between the acting company and the Tamaqua Historical Society. The group uses the Tuscarora church, which is owned by the historical society. Tickets for "A Bear and The Proposal" are $8 for the evening and $6 for the afternoon perfor-' mances. Students and senior citizens get half off the ticket price. For more information, call 622-7557.

"In our society, a man is pretty well identified with his work, and when you take his work away, in some instances, you take away some of his identity," he said in a 1966 interview. It's not always a piece of cake in the big time of any business. Jensen earned a high salary, but he wasn't happy in his later years.

Also in the unhappy category is talk show hostess Marie Osmond, who told TV Guide she hit the road and didn't plan to return home, following the birth of her seventh child. Husband Brian Blosil eventually contacted her by mobile phone while she was driving up the California coast from her Los Angeles home and convinced her to check into a motel. She left the newborn son with a baby sitter and took off. She's now being treated for depression. Hello, is anyone home? Those newspaper question-and-answer columns at times produce amazing results.
