The machine list 13 already made nd-b announcement of Stump means that the convention will ba held next month, but the convention need not ratify the slate if it thinks otherwise. Miss Hazel Ate, who had diphtheria, is)improving. She had a bad case. The assessors of this ccurty are to be used, cot for the benefit of the people, out for political purposes. And you men who love your country and do not want to see your government plundered by a lot of politicians for private gain and power alone, would better be astir. Toe trick is being played under jour very nose at this minute.

Listen, and you shall hear part of the process in detail. Do not be deceived this fight has Long, and only Long, ai the bottom. He spent thousands five years ago and the interests will see that he steads more thousands this year, livery trick ox every disreputable politician, every lie that the prince of liers can tell, every dirty scheme known to filthy politics will be used to put Long back into the senate, where he caa again vote for some important bill and gain the upplause of a lot of claq quers, after he has voted, in the dark, to defeat every one of its provisions that really made it valuable for the public. Now what is Sumner county going to do in this contest. There is no organiz ed opposition to this iniquity that is about to overwhelm us.

There is no money with which to organize. On the other side is the man totally devoid of honor, backed by untold thousands of money. Listen, Mr, Voter, Vdo you know what is going on in reference to the new assessment pliu? A machina man has already been se lected and is to be appointed by the board of county commissioners for coun ty assessor. Every man appointed un der him is to be a man first passed upon by the county bos9 and stamped with his trade mark. He must be a man who will be for Bailey for governor, to help Loog.

He must be a man who will help Stump and every other machine candidate, to help Long's machine. He must be against Simons and Mayhew because they are hontst men. They mu3t be for John Jeffries, because he votes wrong. Do all these things make for decency, for better government, for a better citizenship, for a better party? No, indeed, it is not question of party, not a question of government with these men, It is merely a question of their being allowed to longer plunder the public and use public office and public money for private gain and power, or whether they shall be driven from their former warm nests, while the offices are returned to the people to be conducted far public good. And right now, as it has ever been, there are a few men assisting in this con spiracy to hand the party and govern ment to the office brokers, men who have not studied to sufficient depth, men who are easily deceived.

These men nearly always get their eyes open too What every patriot wants to fight for row is a direct primary law. Then every man can vote ditectly for tb.3 man who wants to hold office, without dele gating that poorer to a lot of politicians who an tagged and paid for in advance. The Long machine has bsen sufficiently powerful to prevent the enactment of such a law, although the Republican party platform has promised it. Long and his kind do not dare to come before the people on their merits for a direct vote. They could not win that way.

They must have slates, secret caucuses, delegates, machines, mea running for one office on the promise that if they get it, the office shall be used, not for the public, but to help get some other member of the machine into office. Now, Mr. Vo.er, you who are not af ter any office, but simply want to see the government run in the interest of the public and not by and for the politicians, tVhat aie you going to do about it? And lastly, when are you going to do it? The Spragae Electric Company are the nly licensed plumbers in Wellington. jgf F. 0.
