For some groups, of taxpayers, especially the elderly and those parents who have to hire a babysitter in order to work, tax-filing will be somewhat easier than in the past. The changes come about because of ax legislation passed by Congress in late 1975 and in the fall of 1976. Several J. LOCASIO 3ni CH-BERRY of Cleveland Ohio, Reynoldsville Man Struck and Killed In Emporium Area EMPORIUM A Reynoldsville man was struck and killed by a car as he walked away from his abandoned vehicle near here Saturday, police said.

A companion was seriously hurt. Alvin E. Goodman, 40, was pronounced dead along Route 120, six miles east of Emporium, by Cameron County Coroner Walter H. Coppersmith. His companion, Kenneth D.

Hobin, 30, of Luthersburg R.D. 1, is in serious condition in Andrew Kaul Memorial Hospital at St. Marys. Coppersmith said he will hold a coroner's inquest into Goodman's death. The driver of the car, Laird Lee Lupro, 18, of Sinnemahoning, told state police he had passed a truck and that as he pulled back into the westbound lane and turned on his high beams he saw the pair, but was unable to avoid hitting them.

Police said Goodman, a well-known truck driver in the area, and Hobin were eastbound on Route 120 when they Singer Anita Bryant Battles Gay Rights MIAMI (AP) Singer Anita Bryant has joined a group protesting on religious grounds a proposed ordinance that would ban discrimination against homosexuals in housing, public and employment. Miss Bryant, a Baptist, said Sunday that the group will go before the Dade County Commission on Tuesday. She said she fears the ordinance would promote homosexuality. "If this ordinance is allowed to become law," Miss Bryant said, "you will in fact be infringing upon my rights or rather discriminating against me as a citizen and mother to teach my children and set examples or point to others as examples of God's moral code as stated in the Holy Scriptures." went onto a side road near the Emporium Country Club. The truck slid off the roadway, and the pair abandoned it when they could not get it back onto the road.

They were struck as they walked toward Emporium. An investigation by Coppersmith and the state police is continuing. HAVE WORKED TOGETHER FOR 23 VEARS --YET HAVE BEEN EMPCOYED BY 12 DIFFERENT COMPANIES MQ COUNTRIES AND ON 3 CONTINENTS HITTING THEM ON tax rate by income above a certain amount. And there is no longer a different tax table for each family size. The bad news is that typical taxpayers will have to compute taxable income by subtracting the $750-per-person exemption and their deductions from total income.

However, the IRS will compute this for you in certain circumstances. After finding the line in the tax table that includes your taxable income, the only question left is whether you are single; married and filing a separate return, or married and filing a joint return. Find your taxes under the column heading that fits you. But an important caution: That figure is NOT what you owe. To get the bottom line you still have to subtract your across-the-board credit either $35 per person or 2 per cent of the first 9,000 of taxable income.

Three major changes affect most taxpayers immediately: The $30-per-person tax credit that was voted in 1975 to help pull the economy out of recession has been increased to $35. Since a credit is subtracted directly from taxes owed, this means that a family of four could reduce its tax bill by (140. But now there is an alternative: Whether or not you itemize deductions, you may subtract either $35 per person or 2 per cent of the first $9,000 of taxable income, whichever is larger. (Taxable income is total income after the $750-per-person exemption and all deductions, whether standard or itemized, have been subtracted). Most persons with taxable incomes of $9,000 or more would select the 2 per cent credit, which would mean a $180 tax cut.

The exception would be families with six or more members. The second across-the board change is a hefty increase in the standard deductions, which are available to those taxpayers who do not itemize deductions. The new minimum standard deduction, designed to ensure that a person pays no tax until his income reaches a certain level, is $1,700 for a single person and $2,100 for a couple filing a joint return. But that is only the minimum'; you are allowed a standard deduction of 16 per cent of total income, but no more than $2,400 if you are single and no more than $2,800 if married. The third and most visible-change will allow 90 per cent of Americans to use a tax table to see at a glance how much tax they owe.

The new table is condensed into three pages, compared with the 10 pages last rear, and covers all taxable income up to $20,000. (Changing the table will have virtually no effect on anyone's tax liability.) The good news is that most taxpayers will not have to use the "tax-rate schedules," which require you to compute taxes owed by multiplying a Coleville Man is Jailed After Sunday Shooting Incident A Smethport area man is in the McKean County Jail at Smethport today, facing charges of aggravated assault, following an incident Sunday at his home in Coleville. State police at Kane Station identified the jailed man as Joseph Edward Kisko, 25, of Smethport R.D. 3. The charges of aggravated assault were filed by his father, William Henry Kisko, 48, of Box 82, Crosby, also in the Smethport area.

According to police, the incident resulted from a family dispute between Joseph Kisko and his wife Carrie at about 11:30 ajn. Sunday. Mrs. Carrie Kisko left their home and went to the home of his sister, a short distance William Kisko arrived at the scene in an attempt to settle the dispute. He began walking from his daughter's home to the Joseph Kisko home, at which time Joseph Kisko fired a rifle shot at his father.

The shot missed his father. The father then called state police. State policemen, representatives of the county Sheriff's Department and McKean County District Attorney James Angell arrived at the scene. Joseph Kisko called the home of his wife's sister and said anyone who attempted to come to his house would be shot. William Kisko then went to the office of District Magistrate Edward Rosenswie of Smethport and filed charged of aggravated assault against his son.

He returned with the warrant. District Attorney Angell advised Joseph Kisko, by phone, that a warrant had been sworn out and requested that Joseph Kisko surrender. He surrendered at about 2:15 was arraigned before Mr. Rosenswie and placed in the McKean County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail pending a hearing set for Jan. 26 at 10 ajn.
