1 We have always had a good reason for bringing this sweeping charge. John Sherman has been the trick iest, boldest, most relentless persecu- tor of the South. Now watch the utter deviltrv S(mthern Confederacv and the doc. trines that underlay it, that is the doctrines of State sovereignty and secession, are no longer among exist- ing things that the one is certainly dead, and the other dead in Southern minds and hearts. Yet he vivifies them for party purposes, because they are odious in the North: he dubs the principles of the Democratic party, older than the Constitution itself, as "Confederate ideas," and seeks to de- feat that great party by imposing a lie and exciting the slumbering pas- sions of the war period. THE NEXT MOVE IN ENGLISH POLITICS, Th PTiiifonoi wxo warcn closely the political develop- i i.i i i me-nts England. A correspondent writing to an Amprioan n.anr fmm r-' London says that the meeting of the Radical Union, last Thursday, under Chamberlain's auspices will probably tend to widen the split in the Liberal party.

Chamberlain has no intention of approaching Gladstone, and thinks i.o gaining founding this uenei on nis ocottisn tour ana the bt. Ansteli election. He is even inclined to insist on his original proposal of an ui 5 uo louser WH1' mS 10 ve mis part ot his scheme in consideration of Liberal reunion, Gladstone, on the other hand, takes aennite ground and declines to lsfue.f remodeled scheme provid- i ing for the continuance of Irish rep- resentatives at Westminster. Meanwhile his visit to WTales will be marked by a new radical departure. am informed, continues this correspondent, that he will make a tolerably specific, announcement in favor of Welsh disestablishment, which prob- ably wtll be the measure on which, after the settlement of the Irish question, the Liberal party will first unite. Scotch disestablishment may be expected to follow in due course, though will be a long interval.

THE EASTERN QUESTION. The hand of Russia is seen or suspected in the insurrection of the Ghil-zai, and that of England is alleged by the Russians to be in the movement for an insurrection in Bokhara. Thus the colossus and the sea lion accuse and watch each other, and thus the steps of the approaching drama are arranged. The English, amidst the scowls of the Afghans, fortify Herat against a Russian surprise. Meantime, the rebels against the Ameer's authority appear to gain some advantages oyer his troops.

The Egyptian question and French jealousy of England's influence on the Nile enter into the great inter-national dispute between the Muscovite and the Anglo-Saxon. Count de Montebello and M. Nelidoff, the French and Russian ambassadors, respectively, Jhave lodged ob jectionsof their governments to the ratification by Turkey of the Anglo-Turkish Convention relative to Egypt. M. Nelidoff, in communicating his government's objections, hinted that the Sultan ratified the convention, such action might cost him his throne.

It has been! carefully examined, and the President has signified his intention to adhere to the order. The eminent philanthropist, W. W. He is remarkably cheerful. Mr. Corcoran will be 89 years of age in December. Mr. Corcoran rested well last night and was no worse this morning.

This afternoon he is reported as doing very well. The doctors say he may recover if he does not have a second of which there are no symptoms, jj A great many visitors, his friends, inquire about him.
