On fourth down with Cameron Falters Before 20-Point Chaffey Rally By MANNIE PINEDA Fang went home limp and talking to themselves after watching Chaffey College of Ontario, defending Western honors, defeat Cameron College of Lawton, 39 to 26, in a sensational touchdown duel featuring yesterdays second annual Little Rose Bowl football game on the famed Arroyo Seco gridiron.

It was a thriller from the moment the Eastern standardbearing Aggies struck midway the first quarter with the opening T. D. to the final score in the games last two minutes, when Chaffey tallied on tired but battling Oklahomans. Both sides struck so fast and sudden that the score exchanged hands six times and was tied once. Never in history of an important intersectional grid engagement has this pappy of all bowls seen so much hustle and bustle up there on the scoreboard.

The total of 65 points run up by these touchdown-crazy clubs set an all-time Rose Bowl scoring record for a big contest U. S. C. and Pittsburgh held it at 61, when the Trojans won, 47-14, 17 years ago, in 1930. Ten Touchdowns During Game Ten touchdowns, most of them of the storybook type and via the airlanes, were poured into the scoreboard, while an estimated crowd of 55,000, far below the pre-game spectations and only 4000 more than the house which saw Compton defeat Kilgore of Texas, 19-10.

The Aggies regained the lead, 14-13, but before the half was over the Panthers again were ahead, 19-14.

Cameron took it back, 20-19, before the third period ended and boosted It to 26-19, in the early minutes of the last stanza, only to have the Westerners deadlock it at 26-all with 11 minutes to play. The Panthers broke the tie with five minutes left, 32-26, and scored the final T.D. with the clock showing 1:10 remaining. Wide Open Game All the Way Ves, indeed, it was the kind of ball game most of the experts had predicted wide open as papa's billfold at this time of year. And for the records heres a quick resume of how the touchdowns were scored: Cameron: 1.

Leonard (Pappy) Logan passed to Martin Riley from the Chaffey 16 and the former converted. (Cameron 7, Chaffey 0.) 2. Logan heaved to Ray Gene Smith from Chaffeys 29 on third down with 12 to go, the aerial going for 40 yards. Logan converted. (Cameron 14, Chaffey 13.) S.

1 junior college team in the country. Like most of the sound thinkers opined, it was McCullough who proved the difference despite the Oklahomans two-team offensive. He threw 17 passes (two being for TDs) and completed seven for the amazing total of 212 cool yards. The Aggies had no one who matched this hurling, although Logan, a real football oldtimer, who at 28 has played something like 14 years of prep, sandlot and collegiate ball, threw three scoring passes. His overhead record showed nine tries for three completions and 99 yards.

Cameron the Best On Ground It was a different story where the yards come the hard way, good, old terra firma. In this department the Easterners had the best, 204 to 148, led bjr Steigleder, who in 14 carries had a 6.45 per. DeYoung of the winners carried seven for a 7.71 per average. Luman blocked Logan's conversion to make it: Cameron 26, Chaffey 19.

Turning Point of the Game They were now in the final quarter and the clock showed 11 minutes to play. Turning point of the game perhaps was on the next kickoff. McCullough passed to Snyder, who hot-footed it to Cameron's 40, where Thomson caught the Panther scatback from the side. McCullough speared Papac on the five, where Don Burum forced the receiver out. DiCiccio rushed it over, and here Coach Rosso called on Kreitz to convert, which he did, tying it up.

Another big break came Chaffeys way soon after. Capt. Sachs recovered Steigleder's fumble on Camerons 22 with five minutes left. Snyder bobbled on the 15, where Gene Bertolussi recovered. DeYoung hit to the 13 and McCullugh made it a first down on the 10.

DiCiccio then scored and Sachs converted. That was the ball game, although Chaffey added another one and last, as previously described.
