Cecie was born in the Philippines, began her academic career in her native country and finished her Master of Arts and Doctoral degrees in Sociology at Southern Illinois University and New York University, respectively.

As an educator, Cecie taught at various levels both in the Philippines and the United States. Before her appointment by Governor Deukmeiian as Director of the Department of Rehabilitation. Cecie was the Assistant Dean of Occupational Education and Evaluative Services at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento. She also held appointive positions in various agencies, boards and councils. Cecie was an active member of the Philippine-American community in Sacramento and was affiliated with various organizations dedicated 10 the promotion of civil rights, educafional opportunities for minorities and preservation of the heritage.

KUROSAKA, KAY Age 72. Born December 1, 1925 in Seattle; died peacefully on October 13, 1998. He is survived by sisters Yoshi Kurosaka of Seattle, WA, Suye llayashi of Chicago, IL, Baru (Eugene) Eguchi of Vancouver, WA, and Ellen Teiko Sakaye of Chicago, IL. He was the loving father to Donald (Marilyn), Ricky and Terry (June), all residing in Sacramento, CA. He also leaves behind three lovin grandchildren, Douglas, Lisa, and Jeffrey along with numerous nephews and nieces.

Kay served his country in the U.S. Army at Fort Ord and Monterey, CA from 1947 to 1952. He was also a member of the Seattle Nisei Veterans Committee. After raising his family in Sacramento, Kay returned to Seattle to help care for his sisters. He will be missed dearly by all he has touched.

Molly 0'Day 'Our Gang' actress worked with Laurel and Hardy during productive silent-film career Molly O'Day, a silent-screen actress who began her short but memorable career as a teenager in the "Our Gang" comedies, has died. She was 88. Ms. O'Day, who had lived in Avila Beach since 1980, died Thursday in Arroyo Grande, near San Luis Obispo. The actress received her star on Hollywood Walk of Fame at the storied corner of Hollywood and Vine in the late 1920s.

Hired by director Hal Roach for the "Our Gang" shorts when she was a schoolgirl, Ms. O'Day worked in comedies with such stars as Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. Only 16, she defeated 2,000 contenders in an audition for the tough girl heroine of the 1927 prizefighter movie "The Patent Leather Kid." Born Suzanne Noonan, Ms. O'Day was the youngest of 11 dren of Metropolitan Opera singer Hannah Kelly and Bayonne, N.J., Judge Thomas Francis Patrick Noonan. After their father's death, Ms. O'Day and two sisters, along with their mother, moved to Hollywood. One of the sisters became an equally successful actress, Sally O'Neil, who died in 1968.

Ms. O'Day largely abandoned her career after her marriage in 1934 to comedian Jack Durant of the vaudeville team Mitchell Durant. The couple had four children, but the marriage ended in divorce in 1951. Ms. O'Day married oilman James McGregor Kenaston on, Nov.

After serving the Marine Corp. during World War II, he began a career in beverage bottling and became President of the Bireley's company of Sacramento. Retiring in 1977, He continued to pursue his interest in golf, playing often at Sacramento area courses including Diamond Oaks Golf Course in Roseville.

Mr. Riechers is survived by his brother, William, of San Jose; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Riechers of San Jose and Alice Riechers of Hollister; and numerous nieces and nephews.
