Here are some truths about lying true lying is acceptable because role models lying habitually By Alison apRoberts Bee Staff Writer Cm nothing like a He detector test to make you feel guilty Maybe that feeling of entrapment as you are held fast by the Velcro tentacles Maybe the examiner Claude A Davis -a former cop and one-man truth squad who has documented more deception than most of us will ever encounter Maybe the guilty feeling is a measure of that nagging consciousness that to be human is to lie at least sometimes Ever since Adam and Eve tried to pull a fast one on God been no shortage of human deception The story of Eden places the lie at the center of that which makes us human: We traded in unswerving truthfulness for our knowledge of good and evil And ever since human beings have spent untold trying to discover deception From attendance school clerks to card players and academics many of us play Find the Liar every day Much of what entertains us I think that more today our are is a variation on the game Read a good mystery lately? Or have you seen in the news? Remember Joe Klein denying his authorship of Remember Susan Smith looking into the camera and pleading for the return of her missing sons when she knew she had left them to drown? The latest round of Find the Liar is being played out over very private facts on a very public stage One of the players is the president Former White House intern Monica Lewinsky allegedly confided to a colleague and perhaps to others that she had an affair with Bill Clinton He went on camera eyes steady voice firm to say: did not have sexual relations with that So who is lying?
