Leroy Holden and Zoe Fel-los had in common after their teams won conference softball championships Thursday They got all wet Both coaches got victory showers drenched with ice water coolers dumped about five gallons of water down my Holden said about an hour after 3-0 Tri-County 4A championship win over Olympic still chilly from Providence team beat preseason state title favorite Independence for the fourth time this season in the Southwestern 4 A final 11-6 Fellos said Wednesday that if her team won she hoped that it might finally get some of the respect she felt it deserved all season them Fellos said us feel so good Maybe the first time was luck maybe the second time but now beaten them four times in a row and we want some respect We want to let people know a good ball team I think made our independence (21-4) which beat Ashbrook 4-0 in its semifinal Thursday took a 3-0 lead in the first inning But in the bottom of the first Providence shook off the funk it was in earlier Thursday during a nine-inning 7-6 win over Garinger in its semifinal got Fellos said and went to work Staci Albright hit a home run in the bottom of the first and the Panthers went on to take a 8-3 lead after scoring four runs in the fourth And when it was over players drenched Fellos last Observer coach of the year in Mecklenburg County and got wet themselves running under the school's new sprinkler system before heading off for a victory celebration at a nearby ice cream parlor For North Mecklenburg (18-4) the celebration involve ice cream but it was just as happy The Vikings have won the past two Tri-County 4A regular season and conference championships and are 40-6 in that span Southwestern 4A Softball Championships (at Providence High) Independence 300 300 0 6 12 3 Providence ACC officially decided against moving its baseball tournament to Knights Castle in Fort Mill SC the league added an additional year to the basketball tournament in Rock Hill The women's tournament will be played at Winthrop in Rock Hill through the 1994 basketball season The event moved to Rock Hill last year and was enough of a success that the administrators extended the original two-year contact by one year ACC Commissioner Gene Corrigan said the one-year extension was all that was asked for by Rock Hill officials was a hugely successful move for Corrigan said was one of those who originally opposed (Rock Hill) because I felt the tournament done that well in North Carolina (it was moved from Fayetteville) had no idea that Rock Hill would do the kind of job it did The whole thing was There was a similar reason for keeping the baseball tournament in Greenville SC rather than move it to the 10000-seat APP MEETINGS Knights Castle There was not a significant financial difference in the two proposals and the faculty representatives and athletic directors decided concerns about a perceived home-field advantage for Clemson merit moving the event Football TV schedule North Carolina and NC State will make five appearances apiece this fall on the ACC football television network but their Sept 26 showdown scheduled for television The ACC announced its television schedule for the 1992 season and North Carolina and NC State had the most appearances Georgia Tech has four games on the network schedule Clemson Florida State Maryland and Duke have three appearances
