AKBOGAST WASHINGTON UR-A Republican drive to cut as much as 10 billion dollars from new appropriations for fiscal year 1954 was near the billion dollar mark today, with two annual money bills cleared by the House. The second departmental appropriation measure skimmed through yesterday, to be followed later this week by House action on another budget measure to finance the State, Justice and Commerce Departments. None of the bills has been acted on by the Senate, which could, of course, restore some of the cuts or trim even deeper. $200 Million Off Yesterday's action was on a bill carrying $406,130,343 for the Interior Department for the fiscal year starting July 1.

This is 5201.206,057 less than, former President Truman requested in his budget in January. Last week the House sent to the Senate a bill to appropriate $451,020.493 for 23 independent agencies. They were all over the air.

Marriage broke up the famed singing trio and sister Jane, the second youngest, went on to become and remain a sole star of radio, night clubs, the stage and television. Patti was referring to the fact that, although her commercial ra- jdio career ended with marriage, she's done a lot of work on the local station in Bethlehem and has had fun doing it. She is married to Robert Simmons, tenor of the radio's famed Quartet of the 193Q's. They raise beef cattle and hogs on their farm in Bucks county, but they give considerable time to community music work. They organized the Town and Country Choristers among their neighbors and each Christmas the group gives The Messiah in Bethlehem.
