Therefhas been more talk of "negro domination" since Secretary of War Tail said so much about it in his Greensboro speech' than for long time, and since he paid so much attention to it, others have had their say about it also, among others The Charleston Kews and Courier, whose utterance is to the eflect that "Secretary of War Taft prated much, too much, of the 'spectre' of negro domination in the South in his Greensboro speech addressed to the flabbergasted and hornlocked fourth-class postmast- YES GRAPE TOBACCO is just a little sweeter than any of the so-called sun-cured plugs made to imitate GFCAPJC, and they are all imitations-- WHY? because that rich, sweet flavor is peculiar to the genuine Leaf, and we have been buying and manufacturing it for over fifty years. ers, revenue officers and other seedy-minded Republicans of North IT 15 MADE BY A FIRM THAT KNOWS HOW 1. But why is negro domination a spectre in North Carolina! Why is it a thing incorporated, whip' ped by the bitter winds twixt heaven and hell like the soul of 'Thoinlinsonf Mr.

Taft's address was in the form of chastisement. It was a wholesome lesson that he preached to the winning wranglers of his party. He told them in licet that they must keep the peace and get together, that the black terror so lately tangible in North Carolina had been dissipated into spectre, and that therefore all about them was the raw material for the building of a healthy, substantial and vigorous party. Who made the negro domination a spectrcf Had 51 r. Taft anything to do with it! Did he come to Nortli Carolina and deliver addresses in the campaign which Charles I.

Aycock led! Is lie responsible for the sulferage amendment which denaturiml negroism politically? Iid his elbow touch that of the Anglo-Saxon in the struggle that shackled the vote! Going far back to the days of his young when his white fellow citizens of North Carolina saved their civilization by force and arms, did he in his Ohio home breathe a whisper of encouragement and inspiration to them? Shouting that the time has come when the white North Carolinians may safely divide into hostile political camps, what earnest dot's the Secretary oiler that the spectre shall not again take on lodily form? He is a great lawyer; he is a student of the-constitution; he would have strayed little from the direct course if he hud said one word of assurance that the Beige on the suffrage amendments of the South had been raised. While the assault of the Crumpackers on Southern suffrage laws have hitherto proved futile, the South is left in the dark as to whether or not the Republican party may make them an issue. The assumption is that the occasional outbreaks by Northern Republicans on this question are intended for home consumption; in other words, for the tickling of the negro vote in doubtful Northern Slates. Certainly, however, they are not so interpreted by Southern negroes, and they serve, as a constant source of annoyance and irritation. The Southern negroes are the chief snlferers; were the respectable leaders of the North to outlaw the ridiculous contests of negro candidates for Congress in the South, un obstacle to better feeling between SATISFIED liver nmi tration of all the laws would 1 re It will be time enough to ask Southern Democrats to the sins of Republicanism in the South when Republicans of the Tatt type promise for their yarty to be good for the future.

Sir. Taft omitted to say the one thing that would have laid a plaus ible foundation for his appeal, and we think that the sensible Demo crats of North Carolina will let the appeal pass unheeded. Murderer to Sue Sailroad. The man Bcdsole ho killed the Croatan Alexsou, on an excursion train in Sampson some weeks atro. has instituted suit against the Atlantic Coast Line railway on the ground that he was forced to kill Alexson to save his own life after the conductor of the train had leen warned of Alex- son's threats.

Alexsou threatened liedsole, was drunk and was seen to lie heavily armed. Bcdsole, to avoid trouble, Innight a reserved seat in a locked car. The manage ment of the train left this car in the hands of the conductor, who proceeded to unlock the door Whereupon liedsole and others warned him that Alexson had threatened Redsole and would car ry out his threats. The conductor declared Alexson was only blutfing and did unlock the door. Then Alexson came in with two big runs and Bcdsole had to shoot to save himself and possibly others.

Had the door not been unlocked it is probable that a tragedy would have Itccn averted. So Bcdsole sues the road for a large amount, although the sum has not been named. I'apers all over the country have commended Redsole and The Washington Post declares he ought to have a medal. He was easily acquitted of the charge of murder at the first trial. It was Bhown to be an error almost immediately, Aim here is the real ruling made: "Any person who shall take any letter, postal card, or packet, al though it does not contain any article of value or evidence thereof, out of a postoffice or branch post-office, or from a letter or mail car rier, or which has been any postoflioe, or branch postoflice or in the custody of any letter or mail carrier, before it has been delivered to the person to whom it was directed, with a desigu to ob struct- the correspondence, or to pry into the business or secrets of another, or shall secrete, embezzle, or destroy the same shall for every such offense, be punishable by a hue of not more than ure hundred dollars or by imprisonment at hard labor for not more than oue year, or by both." Needs of a Reform Stove. "I wonder," a Brooklyn woman said, "why the stove manufacturers do not employ feniine talent to assist in their designing. What a housekeeper wants is plain lines instead of curves and filigree work that quickly fill up with blacking and soon give the stove an untidy, not to say horrid, look. I wash my range every morning with dish wa ter and wipe it with a woolen rag rather than have its crevices and corners and curves clogged with blacking. I think if men who de sign stoves had to clean them we should have a neat and sensible kind of Stove architecture." New York Sun.
