HELEN HELP US! by H«l«n Bott*l YOUTH ASKED FOR IT! This column Is for young people, their problems and pleasures, their troubles and fun. As with the rest of Helen Help US I, it welcomes laughs but won't dodge a serious question with a brush-off. Send your teenage questions to YOUTH ASKED FOR IT, care of Helen Help USI this newspaper, LOVE BLIND GIRL IGNORES WRITING ON WALL Dear Helen; My fiance and I were talking about his ex-girl friend. He said the nicest thing about her was that she'd sit and take it when he punched her around. Usually he slaps and punches mo when he gets the least bit mid at me. I am much smaller than she is, and also fragile. Even my doctor tells me I should be extremely careful. I love him, but I'm afraid if we got married, we might get hurt more than breaking our en* gagement would, -CONFUSED Dear Con; Right! Wlien g girl marries a fejjow who enjoys punching women around, she is asking for all the lumps she'll no doubt get. Break up before you get broken up I-H. Dear Helen; I'm always not Us-- tened to or drowned out. If I try to teH my mother something, she's too tired, or she doesn't really hear, y { t\w\ly together attention, my older sister breaks in. and takes over tlw conversation. She st|ys J'm aot impor? tant enough to \>e heard since J'm. oftjy 14 a«J she's gp. When I want m> father to hear me he says, "Nothing YOU say is worth hearing," or "You're stupid." How, Heien, I doji't tbiflk an "4-B" average street is stupid, but I'm getting a b^d complex. I know'Utsy don't.m^an to be cruel, but it sure hurts. How can { miie them listen, and pder- sta«J that -^CONNIE COUNTS TOO Dear Connie: Why not leave this column on the breakfast table? Then, find a time when parental minds aren't elsewhere, and talk It out. Remember, timing is important; you'll never make it, for instance, during "Star Trek." Your parents need a refresher course in listening and your Dad should realize teasing can be carried too far. My l.G.A.P. "I'm Guessing Again Perception" — tells tnr he's got the typical male attitude that females should be kidded and not beard, But don't blame them too much. The littlest often gets the least attention, especially if she is a quiet, uncomplicated "A • B" student who doesn't demand the spotlight, -H Dear Helen; This is for "Lonesome" who dated older boys and now fellows ter own age won't notice her, I, too, am 16, and have never until this year dated guys in my class, My boyfriends were alwiys three or four years older than I, Don't get the wrong impression, Helen, I've never gone all or even part of, the way, {just felt more at home with old' er guys. This year we moved to Texas where I am a Junior in high school. And. } woke up to reality. Know what I found? That the boys who seemed so cbiWish last year aren't babies any more, My ow« age group is pretty special, anil I'm having a ball. My advice to "Lonesome" is simple. Use the "grapevine" and pass the word that you're not an old woman. Start going to school (unctions. Most importantly, llUgh at those silly jokes the boys tell « after a while they'll really seem funny. Give them compU- menis ~on dress, after-shave, haircuts, doa't EVER treat them as "younger" hoys, but as your superiors. Good Juclf ! **• A NEWCOMER TO THE TEEN WORLD.
