NASCAR Winston Cup Series team owners Sunday as one of his three drivers Terry Labonte won the Slick 50 500K at Phoenix International Raceway purse of $67885 combined with $26780 won by Jeff Gordon and $15470 by Ken Schrader enabled Hendrick to take the top spot from team owner Junior Johnson of Wilkes County According to NASCAR records teams have accounted for prize money of $20555762 to $20535047 for Gordon finished fourth Schrader 15th Sunday for Hendrick Motorsports Labonte said he was unaware anyone kept on this aspect of the sport and asked we make two Fords failed to finish the race A wreck sidelined Jimmy Spencer and a failed clutch put Bill Elliott out More money matters: $40330 purse for finishing third put the driver of the MorganMcClure Chevy over $1 million in season winnings for the first time in his career The Daytona 500 champion has $1009210 with the season-finale Hooters 500 remaining on Nov 13 His previous tops was $649048 in 1992 when he drove for Johnson Marlin is the sixth driver to motor to a million this season joining Gordon Rusty Wallace Dale Earnhardt Ernie Irvan and Geoff Bodine With Atlanta winnings and postseason bonuses to be added Martin Labonte Schrader and Morgan Shepherd appear certain to win at least $1 million this season too An altercation apparently was narrowly averted on pit road as Spencer walked away from his frontstretch crash on Lap 117 He was accosted by rival team owner DK Ulrich who fields Fords for Greg Sacks Sacks crashed in Turn 2 on Lap 50 and Ulrich felt Spencer was responsible came up and said on punch me in the I know what that was Spencer appeared set to oblige but the two were separated Asked if he was involved in the spin that damaged the rear of car but sideline it Spencer grinned and replied UPDATE
