"The strike is over as of last night, but I don't know if any drivers have returned to work. That's up to the companies. That's all the information we have," said a spokeswoman at Teamsters Local 467, Rialto, which has jurisdiction over some 900 Teamster members in San Bernardino and Riverside counties. "Our drivers are coming back this evening at 5 p.m., and when the freight starts coming in and we have enough work for the dock people, we'll call them in," said Bud Bilyeu, terminal operations manager at Yellow Freight System's Lenwood terminal.

Bilyeu said he understood that most of the struck trucking companies also were recalling drivers as of late Wednesday, with dock workers and others scheduled to return when work for them became available. "I had half a dozen calls mostly from dock workers after the agreement was announced last night, asking when they could come back. We'll call them as soon as we have something for them to do. At these prices, we can't afford to have anyone standing around," said Bilyeu. Bilyeu said supervisory personnel had disposed of most of the freight that had been left on the terminal floor by the time the tenative settlement was announced in Washington.

Yellow Freight's Lenwood terminal east of Barstow was the largest county operation affected by the 10-day strike and lockout. About 520 employees, including 340 drivers, were on strike there. ifunrmw ii Carla Smart, in San Bernardino from San Luis Obispo to Passover dinners are celebrated her parents, holds a glass of a. -Ml i Staff photos by Ron Mann it I I i By NEVIN F. MILLER Sun Staff Writer Two area Catholic churches scheduled Passover or Paschal dinners during the current Holy Week to help Catholics understand the connection between Mass and the Passover ritual.

Thirteen participants in the Catechumens (adults preparing to become Catholics) program, their spouses and friends sponsored a Passover dinner at Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral, 2525 N. Arrowhead San Bernardino, on Palm Sunday. A Paschal dinner is scheduled in Parish Hall at St. Adelaide Church, 27457 Base Line, Highland, at 6 p.m. Holy Thursday (today).

The Rev. William Erstad, pastor, said 200 are expected at the dinner. Erstad said the dinner was scheduled to coincide with "The Last Supper" of Jesus with His disciples. Holy Thursday Liturgy of the Lord's Supper is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. following the dinner.

The eight-day Jewish Passover (Festival of Freedom) celebration will continue through April 13. Jews celebrate Passover or Pesach as a holiday of the springtime and as the time of the escape of the Jewish people from slavery in ancient Egypt. The traditional story is recalled at the Passover Seder, a festival meal at which foods and words (Continued on B-6, column 1) By JAN CLEVELAND Sun Staff Writer Easter weekend travelers may encounter some problems trying to buy gasoline, especially in the mountain resorts. And motorists everywhere in San Bernardino County will find service stations operating shorter hours and selling higher priced gas. Especially on Sunday.

A great many stations will be closed on Easter some because their gasoline supplies are low and others because the operators want to spend the holiday with their families. The Automobile Club of Southern California surveyed 333 service stations and found that 35.8 percent in the outlying areas will be closed Easter Sunday. In metropolitan areas, 71.3 percent of the stations will be closed, said Mike Masinter, Auto Club supervisor of travel research and publications. Those figures mean that just over half of all Southern California gas stations will be closed on Easter, Masinter said. Only 12 percent will be closed Saturday.

But in the San Bernardino Mountains, of nine gas stations contacted, only two were planning to be open Sunday. One of those was at Big Bear Lake and the other at Lake Arrowhead. A spokesman for Mayo Union Service in Running Springs said he is closing on the weekends so he'll have enough gas to sell to mountain residents during the week. "We're the only gas station in Running Springs and we're selling seven days worth of gas in five days. In order to have any left during the week, we have to close on the weekends," he said.

Operators of an Arrowbear sta-; tion said they expect to run out of gas sometime Saturday and, even if they don't, they'll still be closed Sunday. Other station operators said they would be open Saturday, but only to service vehicles, not to sell gas. Motorists traveling through the high desert should have a slightly easy time finding fuel. A spokesman for the Barstow Chamber of Commerce said all stations in town except five would be open at least part of the time during the weekend. The African country's food supply has been depleted by a year-long drought that ended last summer. On its heels came torrential rains that ruined the primary planting season, U.S. officials say. An estimated 400,000 persons were affected in Bas Zaire, a triangular shaped area that borders the Atlantic. The U.S.

Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance has stepped in by arranging today's seed delivery and by making plans for the shipment of 400 tons of beans in mid-July. Norton's plane took off Monday morning on the three-day trip, which included layovers in Charleston, Puerto Rico and Ascension Island. It will make the delivery in Kinshasa, Zaire's capital. The load is packaged so 100,000 families each will receive a packet of the 12 different seed varieties. They include spinach, cabbage, collards, kale, lettuce, mustard, okra, onion, tomatoes and turnips.

The packets are being furnished under a $170,000 contract with the Dessert Seed Co. of El Centre Ollie Davidson, who is arranging the Disaster Assistance Office shipments, said it has taken valu GIRLS WE HAVE SOME DARLING PROM DRESS FRANCIS SHOP 331 W. Businessman is missing SAN BERNARDINO Joseph Caponetti, a San Bernardino businessman, vanished from his air conditioning firm this week and evidence has been found that may indicate foul play, police said Wednesday. Caponetti, 57, owner of Tru-Cool Air Conditioning, 1149 E. Base Line, was last seen by his wife, Jane, at 8 a.m. Tuesday when he left for work, Lt. Donald Levan said.

At 11 a.m. Tuesday some employees arrived at the office and found the doors open but Caponetti gone. He was alone at the business at the time he disappeared. They called his Highland home and talked to his wife, who went to the office and summoned officers. Behind a work bench there was a large area of blood on the floor which had been partially covered over with tar, Levan said.

"There is evidence that indicates there was a struggle and someone sustained an injury," he said. Caponetti's pick-up truck was still parked at the business when officers arrived. Police investigating Caponetti's background found nothing to indicate he had enemies. He is a longtime area resident. Levan said Caponetti didn't keep large sums of money at the business where he and his employees assembled swamp coolers for sale.

"W7e've issued an all-points bulletin and a description of Caponetti," Levan said. "We are considering him a missing person at this time and we are conducting an active investigation into his disappearance." Police asked anyone having information on Caponetti's whereabouts to call the department at 383-5011. GOGI'S HAIR FASHIONS Spring Perm Special s5 OFF Mon. thru Thurs. April only 1 39 W.

directory with some incorrect yellow pages recently, the error should be rectified by Friday, the telephone company announced Wednesday. Some 8,000 books containing about 21 pages of Riverside yellow page listings were among the 109,000 directories delivered recently in the San Bernardino area, said John T. Dokken, area public affairs representative at General's Pomona office. Dokken said the Riverside pages were inadvertently inserted under successive yellow page listings throughout the San Bernardino books, and a like number of San Bernardino listings were left out. Recipients of the books containing the wrong listings were scattered throughout the San Bernardino area in a random pattern, with no concentration in any particular section, said Dokken.

All those who received incorrect books have been identified and will receive new books by Friday. One of the reasons the company got the contract, he explained, is that "There's plenty this Mexican labor right here at the line."
