a a a a a a a a a a Cruz Sentinel Sunday, June 5, 1977 Editorial Page Creator Dies EL DORADO, Kan. (AP) Rolla A. Clymer, for 60 years editor of the El Dorado Times, a speaker and heralded by some as the creator of the editorial page, died Saturday, at Allen Memorial Hospital. He was 88. Clymer was noted for his wide-ranging knowledge of Kansas history and politics.

He had continued active at the Times until January. "He was truly one of the great men who wrote so eloquently to shape Kansas' unique journalistic and political history, said Gov. Robert F. Bennett upon learning of Clymer's death. Clymer went to work for William Allen White, the editor of the Emporia Gazette, in 1907 and served as a reporter and city editor for the legendary White until 1914.

He resigned to become editor-manager of the old Olathe Register. In 1918, Clymer began what was to be a life-long association with El Dorado, first as operator of the Republican, which a year later merged with the Walnut Valley Times to become the El Dorado Times. He remained with the Times the rest of his life except for a few Phyliss Behrens Died Saturday Phyliss M. Behrens, a native of Alameda who has lived in the Santa Cruz for over 32 years, died Saturday in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. She was 49.

She was a member of Twin Lakes Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Jack Behrens of Santa Cruz, a 30-year employe of Pacific Telephone; two daughters, Jacqueline Webber of Felton and Susan Behrens of Santa Cruz; two sons, Alan and John Behrens of Santa Cruz; a sister, Marian Kubik of Castleford, Idaho, and her mother, Edith Hardwick of Santa Cruz. Funeral services will be conducted at Twin Lakes Baptist Church, 2701 Cabrillo College Drive, Aptos, Tuesday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Roy R. Kraft and the Rev.

Paul Barton officiating. Collen Arden, the mother of former inmate Larry Shull, has filed suit against the county charging it did not treat her son for his "serious dental The pain caused him to become depressed "about the prospect. it would continue indefinitely" and he hung himself July 29 of last year, the suit claims. Jail guards refused to listen to his complaint and accused him of "malingering," according to the suit.

SC Girl Critical After Shooting A Santa Cruz girl was in critical condition Saturday night after being accidentally shot in the leg at a Santa Cruz residence.

The girl, Carolyn Doherty, about 13 years old, was shot around 5 p.m. Saturday at a residence on Otis Street. Arthur Campbell Services Held Funeral services were held Saturday in Santa Cruz for Arthur B. Campbell, who died Friday in a local rest home. He was 89. A native of New Hampshire, he spent 32 years as an employe of Standard Oil. He was a 20- year resident of Santa Cruz.
