At this point there was a legitimate play for the contract. Declarer could discard one spade on the king of diamonds and play East for both the queen and jack of spades but Gray felt that this was not going to work. Instead he tried a bit of deception. He just ran off all his trumps and left It to East and West to discard as best they could. Now let's see what happened to poor West. He had no trouble with the first four club leads. He followed to the first then he discarded a heart, a diamond and a spade. When it came to the fifth club lead he was in real trouble. He knew that Gray's last four cards were either four spades or three spades and one diamond. West guessed wrong and threw a second spade to give Gray his contract. Alex, H.
