going as FSU played five freshmen who Bowden said The Seminoles trailed 20-10 just halfway through the second quarter Florida State opened the scoring with freshman Dave Cappelen's 37-yard field goal The Seminoles had gambled with fourth-and-two at 40-yard line and made it on a nine-yard burst up the middle by Jeff Leggett to keep a drive alive Black hit a 19-yard pass to Ed Beckman to the South Jackson at the Miami Springs gym- In the first game of the championship Springs jumped out to a 11-0 lead before Jackson scored The Golden Hawks easily won the first game of the best of three series
