The title role assignment has gone to Eddie Albert in a cast that includes George Alexander as balladeer-narrator and a chorus of four men and four women. The show is being staged without scenery in a format similar to the successful exhibits of Don Juan in Hell" and "John Brown's Body." The venture is being staged by Arnold Marquis and Don Quinn, joint authors of the book and lyrics. Gene dePaul, composer of "Li'l Abner," wrote the music. Stamp Busy NEW YORK (AP) - Terence Stamp, the young actor who won impressive reviews in his first film "Bully Budd," is to be busy on the stage in London and Now York during the next two seasons. Stamp has the key role in "The Man From Thermopylae," a drama by Ada Kay that is being directed by Peter Coe. Production plans call for debut next spring in the West End, followed by a Broadway engagement in the fall of '64. Q Vacation to Work ° HOLLYWOOD (UPI) - Chuck Connors, who starred for five years in "The Rifleman" on television, has asked for a vacation from his new series, "Arrest and Trial," to appear with Doris Day in a new movie. Most of the time they wait for him. And home for Brinkley is a two story colonial-style brick edifice two city blocks from the Washington, D. C. border in Chevy Chase, Md., a very fashionable address in the nation's capital. The five - bedroom house is brand, spanking new, built by the award-winning video news star when he decided his old home on the Potomac River was too far away to commute every day. After dinner, like as not, Brinkley will head for his cellar workshop which is filled with woodworking tools of every description. There he happily hammers, saws and chops away at his favorite pastime, cabinet-making. Woodworking Relaxes Brinkley, a low-pressure southerner, beats the terrific pressures of his job by turning out beautiful furniture, incljiding the family dining room suite. "It keeps me from going nuts," he explains. "Woodworking is relaxing because when you work with tools everything either fits or it doesn't There's no halfway about it; no gray areas like human relationships or the news. When you make something with your hands it's a relief to know whether it's right or wrong." Brinkley is right most of the time. His convertible Corvette is for his own enjoyment. The family Falcon station wagon is for transporting his troops, Alan, 14; Joel, 10, and John, 8. Mrs. Brinkley (Ann, a former United Press International news gal) is active in political and civic affairs in addition to caring for the family. She is assisted by a full-time maid. Home Folks Because nightclubbing and restaurant dining is unchic in Washington the Brinkleys entertain a great deal at home. And when they go out it is usually to the homes of friends. "The favorite indoor sport in Washington is talking," Brinkley says, "and the best place to do that is at home." Their friends are the same ones they've known for 20 years. Among them are politicians, newsmen and just plain folks. Brinkley's news partner, Chet Huntley, is not a close friend for the very good reason that he works out of New York and sees partner David only three or four times a year. Brinkley reads whenever he has the opportunity. Because he is involved in reporting news, much of his free time is devoted to newspapers and magazines. When he reads for enjoyment, books on politics, history, biography and other non-fiction capture his interest. He'd like to write a book hims>elf, but, "everytime I have an idea I have to use it right away on my show." Because he is not a performer per se, the tall, 43-year-old reporter cannot accustom himself to being a celebrity. Reporter First "It interferes with my private life," Brinkley says. "Wherever I go I find it hard to be a reporter when people ask for autographs. I'd rather go unrecognized so I can get my work done without drawing attention. It was really rugged at the 1960 political conventions." The Brinkley wardrobe is modest and, of necessity, conservative. The clothes he buys must double as his television wardrobe.
