Purpose of Aid Training The main purposes of first aid training are 1. To prevent, accidents. To make the individual see an accident in terms of possible pain to himself and his pocketbook is an important feature of any safely program. Impressing the results of failure to have small injuries immediately cared for is one of the best methods of getting people to have all minor injuries treated without delay. 2 To equip the individual with sufficient knowledge to determine the nature and extent of an injury.

This does not mean that the first aider is expected to make a complete and accurate diagnosis such as the physician makes, but he should be able to come to some decision as to the natute and possible extent of the injury. 3 To train the first aider to do the proper thing at the proper time Likewise, knowing what NOT io do is equally important. Outline of Course. According to the revised edition of the American Red Cross first aid textbook, the follwing will be discussed in standard first aid classes: First Aid, Its Need and Use; Anatomy and Physiology of the Body; Dressings and Bandages; Wounds: Shock; Wounds Requiring Additional Consideration; Artificial Respiration; Injuries Due to Heat and Cold; Poisons; Unconsciousness; Common Emergencies; Transportation; First Aid Kits.
