Gastonia Rangers pitcher Steve Rowley played the part of the thief Tuesday night at Sims Legion Park -Rowley stole center stage from Savannah pitcher Donovan Osbomennaking his South Atlantic League debut after the St Louis Cardinals made him their No 1 pick in the 1990 Osbometwas 'good but it was Rowley who earned rave reviews after Gastonia's 6-1 win Rowley (4-1) surrendered just five hits in eight inningsstriking out five and walking three He did not allow a run after the first inning and set down 12 ina row during one stretch "It was my best start of the year by far" Rowley- said "I threw strikes and that's been my biggest lproblem the last few games" Osborne (0-1) held the Rangers hitless through three innings but Gastonia Inade its firsthit a big one Donald Harris led off the bottom of the fourth with his first home run to tie the game' Barry Winford followed with a single and one out later Mike Burton clubbed his 14th homer-to give the Rangers a 3-1 advantage' "He was throwing strikes and he had good velocity" said Savannah pitching coach Andy Rincon "He's just got to learn to adjust to what ballpark he's pitching in He needed to keep the ball on the ground tonight" Osborne' surrendered a double' to Burton in the sixth and left the game after Jose 4 Oliva's BI single made it 4-1 I Timmie Morrow hit his seventh homer in the seventh inning to give the Rangers a 5-1 edge It was Morrow's fourth home run against Savannah and his first since June 22 "I was in such a big slump I just wanted to get a hit" Morrow said Gastonia (26-14) scored once more in the seventh when Craig 'Newkirk doubled and came home on Ken Powell's single Savannah (27-14) scored its run when Mateo Ozuna singled stole second and came home on Anthony Lewis' double Rowley allowed just one more Cardinals runner to reach second base "I'm finally healthy now" said who was 04 with a 532 IERA at Class A Port Charlotte Fla earlier this year "I had real bad tendinitis in the rotator duff" Notes: Gastonia pitcher Brian Steiner by mutual agreement with the Texas Rangers was placed on the suspended list Tuesday for personal reasons Steiner left the team and will not return this season He had been placed on the disabled list several weeks ago for a rotator cuff injury and had trouble coping with the heat Texas director of player development Marty Scott said Steiner (0-0 138)
