CLEVELAND, Sept. 6 Three hundred persons were routed from the fashionable Commodore apartments on the East Side here early today when fire, believed to have broken out in the laundry in the basement, threatened to sweep the entire apartment building. The flames were confined to the basement, but heavy smoke rolled upward through stairways and elevator shafts Into every one of the 190 suites. Four persons were carried to safety by firemen and the others made their escape orderly, scantily clad in pajamas and bathrobes Four emergency police squads were called out to preserve order. Three Taken to Hospital.

Mrs. W. B. Fish was trapped 011 the eleventh floor when she was overcome by smoke. She was rescued by firemen and taken to Mt.

Many of the occupants, groping through the heavy fumes, grabbed emergency gas masks and made their escape One policeman found three women nearly overcome on the eleventh floor. AH were carried to safety. Auother fireman was found exhausted in the basement some time after the fire had been under way.

Fellow fire fighters succeeded in lifting him from the flaming basement without serious injury. Miss Gertrude Fuller, day telephone operator, is being hailed as the heroine of the near tragdy and the heroine of the near-tragedy and is greatly responsible for the safe- was roused by the night clerk ot the hotel, who first discovered the smoke. With the dense smoke choking and blinding her, the girl sat at the telephone board and called every one of the suites. It is not known how much damage was done to the large apartment, but is expected to reach thousands of dollars when a final estimate Is made by fire officials. LISBON M.

Judge W. F. has announced that the 24 old civil actions must be tried, settled or dismissed. Each case will be disposeJ of the day it has been assigned, and no further notice will be given attorneys. No assignment has been made for September 18 and 19 on account of the county fair at Lisbon.

The work will be crowded into three days, with the grand jury convening at 10 a. m. on the opening day. Sept. 16, 17 and 20 have been set as the time to hear 14 uncontested divorce cases, and in addition 12 motions aud demurrers will be heard on Sept.
