defense of Washington DC until the Pentagon comes up with a more convincing justification including divulging the cost Chairman John Stennis (D Miss) told reporters his committee out of in waiting for US District Judge John Singleton Jr made the decision after meeting with attorneys from both sides for an hour and 50 minutes and hearing testimony Attorneys for Cooley and Liotta had asked Singleton rule in their favor instead of sending the case to a jury Singleton granted the motion ending the nine-day trial Mrs Shirley Karp widow of the recipient Haskell Karp filed the $45-million 'suit against the surgeons for performing the artificial transplant on her husband April 4 1969 He died four days later 36 hours after a human heart had been transplanted into his chest Cooley who had
