Why ia it that the average man is worth bo mnch less in money and property than we hare a right to expect him to be? It isn't because he doesn't make the money, for the average man is industrious and has earned from $10,000 to $30,000 in the past ten years. It is because he doesn't give much serious thought either to bis income or out-Ko.

Serious thought would teach him the true value of a dollar; then lie would nd carefully and save steadily. That system soon places any man ahead of his fellows. A bank uccount helps you to realize the value of moneyandaidin handling financial affairs. We invite your account and will help you to save. TBUE (GHT0ZER1S BARKS, Henderson, N.

C. This is a' bunk where the humble and the more favored, the rich and the poor, are equally welcome; where the small depositor and the large depositor are treated with equal consideration; and where ALL will find excellent banking- facilities, extended upon th motto of ABSOLUTK SECURITY, SATISFACTORY SERVICE AN1 LIBERAL TREATMENT. Little Virginia Barnes Winner ct the Watch. The 35.00 gold watch offered by A. Gholson in 'their popular girl contest" was won by Virginia Barnes, the bright and pretty little three-jear-old daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. Alex T. IJunies, she having received the irreatest number or vote cast, C57. The contest cIimI Thursday, and at the appointed hour, o'clock Friday afternoon, i numlKr of persons visited the store to leurii who had won the prize and witness the presentation. The store was prettily decorated with flags and evergreens and the surround ings were in keeping with the spirit of the occasion.

Prof. Alderman made a short and appropriate talk in which he paid beautiful tribute to childhood and youth the impressionable ugfr and pointed a moral from the lesson of buccess taught for the inspiration and emulation of others. Mr. Gholson then presented the watch to the sweet little girl by placing it around her neck tied with a piece of ribbon. Mr.

A. C. Moss spoke for her and thanked Mr. Gholson and thoso who had voted for little Virginia, and she showed her pleasure iu actions which spoke louder than words. Mr.

and Mrs. Barnes desire to thank their friends who worked and voted for their little daughter and appreciate fully what they did to win the prize for her. () S.R.HARIUS, HENRY PERRY, S.T.PEACE, 5 President. Vlce-Pres. Cashier.

(ilover. CONSUMPTION Mainly Caused by Chronic Colds and Hanging-on Coughs. prominent New England scientist nas given a good deal of time to the study oi consumption, and finds tbat comparatively few cases are hereditarv. Mostly all are caused by neglected coughs 'and colds, which gradually weaken the whole pulmonary system, and before people realize it there is a dis eased spot in one lung; spitting blood soon follows and eventually a collapse. Snch an unnecessary end.

such a pity, for all could hare been so different. We know of many instances where our val uable cod liver preparation, Vinol, has been most benehcial in such cases. Vinol is able to cure hanging-on-colds, stubborn coughs, strengthen the lungs, and thus prevent the development of consumption, because it is the most per fect cod liver preparation ever compoun ded; it contain no oil or grease to upset the delicate stomach, yet it does contain every one of the fifty odd medicinal cura tive elements actually taken from fresh cods' livers, with tonic iron added. We ask all Henderson people to try Vinol for weak lungs, chronic coughs, hanging- on colds, or run-down and debilitated conditions, and will pay for the medicine ourselves if it fans to benefit. How can we express our faith in Vinol more emphatically? W.
