By Lawrence Toppman Movie Critic When you don't have kids ifs best to adopt one momentarily if you're reviewing a movie such as "The Land Before Time" I eavesdropped on a little girl of 5 or so who sat next to me at Eastland Mall Cinemas Wednesday night Her pertinent comments: Seeing a harmless leaf-eating dinosaur amble across the screen: "I wanna see Tyrannosaurus Rex!" Upon the advent of that red-eyed knife-toothed steam-puffing monster "O00000000000!" Observing the long-necked plodding creature old-timers know as brontosaurus: "Daddy that's apatosaurus A-PA T-o-saur-us" (See little kids know dinosaurs) Watching a toad gulp a fly: "O000 a frogasaurus!" (Well not always) After her father's feeble request for quiet: "You're not being very nice I'm just talking!" So were most of the other kids at the screening which was two-thirds populated by people whose heads barely poked up over their seat backs But the buzz was favorable Universal Pictures aimed "The Land Before Time" at kids 3 through 10 and it apparently entertained that crowd There's not much in it for adults however Thank Goo( My own 34-year-old hopes were raised when I saw director Don Bluth's name on the credits Bluth directed the visually sumptuous "The Secret of NIMH" and the ambitiously written "An American Tail" His new movie is much simpler thematically and less sharp visually though it's still 20000 leagues ahead of the Thundersmurf Galacticas on Saturday morning television Kids may especially like the fact that the five dinosaurs marching from their desolate homeland to the lush Great Valley are kids Plucky Littlefoot is accompanied by Sarah a rambunctious triceratops Spike an amiable but rather slow-witted fellow (maybe a stegosaurus?) Petrie a tiny pteranodon or pterodactyl and Ducky some sort of sea-dweller Bluth has borrowed heavily This year enjoy a Thanksgiving feast without the fuss Our buffet serves up a vast array of taste-tempting delights and traditional holiday fare For reservations 'call The Marker at 372-5440 Thank goodness for Adam's Mark! peoun at the Adam's Mark Hotel Si South McDowell Street Serving Thanksgiving Day 11 LOanADOpm 1 7 '1 A 4 a 07 il A TOSOUllir ii-'k' 1 I Nti iii i 44 'C1 i r'''' --'1 1 41' -47 14 rV4 lt i 1 :71 i 1- i l( 1' i-4iii 1 -4' i --7- i ii 1 i ii iiii i i i 1 i i iii "4 4 1 Tr 74 11: rt -KA JA II 11 6 t' 41 0 i ROASTED TURKEY DINNER '11'61ith allthe Trimmings( 1 fresh-Whipped Potatoes 41 Dressing and Giblet Gravy 41 Dressing and Giblet Gravy ''1 -1 i URKEYDINNER Trimmings A )edPotatoes'4 i id Giblet' Gravy 1 --40'Sauteed Peas and Mushrooms Cranberry-Apple Relish di" ir ts and Mushroorn ji DDle I 4" Guess who's coming to South Park this i Saturday November 19?
