Pet. Al Warnick is a guy that has been around for the proverbial 10,000 years. He was an old man when I first met him over 20 years ago at the local Sylvania plant.

Although not in that time of life when a bowler thinks of a new high career game, it happened for Warnick. Shooting in the Thursday Niters at the Surf Bowl with a 155 average, Warnick gunned a 151 to open the night. The second game began with an open frame. Right frames and eight strikes later, that error was forgotten and Warnick had a 253 game. He faded to a 129 in the finale, but no one can take away the 253 a new lifetime high.

George Delury turned in a tidy stepladder in the Valley League at Felton, hitting games of 136, 137, and 138 on a 149 mark. Mike Stewart let a 246 Century game push his TGIF League team to a 794 scratch game at Felton. With a team average of 634, Greg Hines rolled 178 on a 146, Stewart hit his 246 on a 141, Robby Stewart shot 169 on a 158, and Cheryl Stewart fired a 201 with a 189 average. When it comes to gain over average, let no one step to the head of the class until Mike Burnell has his say. Burnell had a 137 average in the Felton Merchants and threw a screaming 603 total to go 192 sticks over.

Burnell ripped singles of 164, 226, and 213. Sue Carlson gained 150 pins by hitting 193, 189, and 200 on a Moonlighters average of 144. Judy Rogers went 151 sticks over with a 586 total on a 145 Gamblers Express average. On the junior side, there were Tom Dunbar and Brent Neumann from the Surf's Adult-Junior League. Tom had a 161 pin gain with a 641 series on games of 193, 214, and 234.

Brent had the Surf's high game, a 258 that came in the middle of a 590 total. He had a 162 average at the time. High series for the area was a 696 by Linda Young in the Felton Mixed Doubles, high game saw Craig Ferguson with a 278 in the Felton Classic, and the top men's total was a 690 by Don Sharp in the Surf Invitational League. Pat Adams shot a 265 to lead the area femmes, while Lucille Lupini hit a 233 for the high women's Surf game. Islee Long fired a 616 in the Surf Invitational to lead the Surf women, putting 176, 226, and 214 together on a 170 average.

Monday's Game Phoenix 113. Utah 108 Tuesday's Games Indiana at Nzw York Detroit at Washington Philadelphia at Milwaukee Golden State at San Antonio, 5:30 p.m. Atlanta at Chicago Dallas at Houston Sunnyside Bowl in Fresno and came out with the fifth highest series in AJBC history rolled by a senior girl. Junior bowling is recorded in many different divisions as well as by male and female. The Bear recorded her history-making event in the senior girl division.

It, was during the semi-finals that Bear cranked up and blasted games of 206, 289, and 257 for a 752 series. The 289 came as a surprise, considering Bear was rapping with a friend and finally realized she had nine in a row when she stepped to the line for frame ten. Bear said she dropped the tenth ball and it rolled over the thumb hole into the brooklyn pocket for a st rike. The same trick failed in the eleventh and a stubborn ten-pin stood. She came back with a four-bagger to start the final game, picked up a spare, and strung four more strikes.

At that point, Denise had 18 strikes in 20 deliveries. Denise said there was no disappointment in not getting the 300 game; she felt she was not ready for a perfect game and there is plenty of time. She ultimately finished third in the tournament. In verifying that the 752 was the fifth highest in AJBC senior girl history, the AJBC representative in Wisconsin's bowling headquarters indicated the 289 game was the 14th time a score of that level or higher had been rolled in the same division. The 1980-81 Rockies season resulted in a net loss to the city of about $64,000, according to figures compiled by the city's Office of Budget and Management. The current season, in which Rockies attendance dropped still further, is expected to produce no more than a break-even proposition for the city.

The city charges the hockey club eight percent of net receipts or a minimum of $3,500 per game, whichever is higher. In 1980-81, that totaled $178,000. The city's income from parking, food concessions and rental of private boxes increased that total to $530,000. Yet the city's costs, ranging from janitors and ushers to liability insurance and utilities, were just over $590,000. Defending 125cc champion Mark Barnett, from Bridgeview, 111., took the overall win in the season opener, after a race-long battle with Johnny O'Mara, of Canyon Country, Calif. The 250cc class was won by Rick Johnson, from El Cajon, with Warren Ried, of Midway City, second. The Hangtown event was the first race in the eight-race series for the 1982 national championship for both 250cc and 125cc machines. A 500cc series is also scheduled to begin in May. (AP) The National Collegiate Athletic Association has asked Clemson University to respond to an "official inquiry" into allegations concerning possible football recruiting violations. Clemson President Bill L.

Atchley issued a brief statement Monday confirming that the NCAA notice had arrived. Ron Stratten, assistant director of enforcement for the NCAA, said Monday an official inquiry usually indicates that an NCAA investigation has been completed and the school has received "a set of allegations." "It's the staff's point of view that by the time an official inquiry is sent, the investigation is complete," Stratten said. "But I wouldn't want it etched in stone. It's always possible that an investigation could continue." Atchley declined to elaborate on the allegations. In his statement, he said the university "will not issue any comment until after the matter has been investigated by the university and a hearing has been held by the NCAA committee on infractions."
