lo-j cated includes more than ten acres and is considered one of the -most beautiful in upper East Tennessee The new hospital is situated on a knoll with deep ravines flanking it on all sides giving a view of the valley that is unsurpassed I The ample land site for the hos- I Ipital prevents other buildings from being erected nearby and thus assures quiet comfort to the patients The spot was selected as one that I is both airy and sunny and ideal for the recovery of patients Architects The architects for the building I were Henry Pelton and James I Gambrel Rogers of New York City who designed the building in all Its respects The architect i in immediate charge was Charles Crane from the New York offices of the company The general contractor was A Pyle Kingsport representative of the I Nicholson contracting firm George May Jr supervised the major portion of the construction Two men who deserve a lot of credit according to the builders of the hospital are those who handled the largest sub-contract jobs They are Conatser who supervised the electrical installation and Watkins of the Holston Plumbing and Heating Co of Kingsport who installed all plumbing and heating equipment Georgian Design The building is Georgian in design with the nurses home smaller but of the same architectural type It differs only in the porch and entrance designs The hospital rooms for adult patients range from a single bedroom with a bath to four-bed wards In between there are single bedrooms without baths and two-bed rqpms All outside walls and roofs are insulted with three inch
