Naomi Anderson lectured at the African Church last evening on the subject: "Who Are the Negroes or The Solution of the Race Problem" The speaker declared that although the negro had descended from the Ethiopian the two were not the same Years of separation from their forbears had changed the conditions to such an extent that there was little similarity between the two The speaker said that in the discovery of America she could see the prophecy of Isiah fulfilled and quoted at length from the Bible in support of her opinion Many great and noble men had been Ethiopians and the people of color might well be proud of the race from which they sprung The wife of Moses was an Ethiopian and King Solomon was supposed to be The speaker then said that her race could never be the equal of the white race as long as it was weighted down with the name of negro and she made the assertion that the word negro meant inferior as well as meaning black The negroes she said were not a race but the descendants of a race and the term negro was applied to them while they were slaves It was a stigma and should be removed A solution of the whole problem according to the speaker was that the people of her race should insist on being called "Americans of color" An Eastern school teacher had coined the expression Afro-Americans which was better than the term negro but still fell short of the mark for the cause that there should be no German-Americans Irish-Americans or Afro-Americans All who were born in this country were Americans and there should be no distinction as to progenitors The term colored people was equally bad as her people had never been colored but were born with dark MANHOOD RESTORE CUPIDENE" This great Vegetable Vital i izer the prescription of a fauaous French physician pilgrimage to both home and foreign missionary workers is soon to be arranged by the representatives of a number of wealthy contributors to missionary work It will be under the auspices and guidance of the Rev Henry Field For years Cornelius Vanderbilt John Rockefeller Miss Helen Gould Cyrus McCormick Jr of Chicago and the Messrs Phil and Armour also of Chicago and other wealthy people have given hundreds of thousandS of dollars toward carrying on missionary work in far-otf territories of which they knew but little The representatives of the board through which they contributed were the only Information they had It is to enable these and others interested In mission work to know by actual observation exactly how the missionary conducts his labors that the trip is to be made The party will not exceed twenty all told and will start for Japan via San Francisco about April 10th and will be absent several months The tour will be under the Immediate direction of Messrs A )3 Thomson and Elliott The itinerary will Include typical stations in the home missionary work giving the members of the party as they cross the continent object lessons In evangelizing the negro Spanish-Amerlean Mormon and the Chinese to which may be added the reckless and abandoned element of the Anglo-Saxon population throughout the West and on the Pacific Coast Then will begin the study of missions In Japan The work of all the American missions there will be looked into after which China will be visited Shanghai the northern center of the Chinese missions will be the first stop after which the party will go down the coast to Canton and drop in at far-off Formosa where the work of Rev Dr Mackay will be observed Leaving Hongkong the party will steam south and east through the strangest waters of the world The at- boreal savages of Borneo will show what American missions have done for them as will also the natives of Celebes and New Guinea The route then carries the pilgrims through Torres Straights to the eastern ports of Australia After several pauses to enable them to obtain a face to face realization of the devoted martyr lives spent amid the lowest and darkest populations of the globe they will be in a mood to appreciate civilized Australia The itinerary then provides visits to the missionary archipelago in southern seas under the auspices that will afford the voyagers every opportunity to see the mission and civilized forces at work The Fiji Tonga and Samoan groups will be visited and extended trips to 1felonesia and Micronesia will be made enabling the tourists to gain at first bands the story of the conquest of these "elated little coral worlds This sec- 1 Von is regarded as the very birth place bf imission work 1 The return will be made byway of -4 Honolulu and a general tour of the 4 Hawaiian Islands and New Zealand will be made The missions at Albuquerque Las Vegas and Santa Fe will be made on the outward trip and those of northern Canada 'visited on the return A large number of people have expressed a desire to accompany the party but it has to be limited owing to the fact that in many of the places in the south sea islands there are no accommodations to be had other than those afforded by the missions The heavy contributors to foreign missions who cannot themselves be members of the party as well as the different boards of foreign missions of various denominations will send representatives The missions visited will Include those of every denomination which will enable the pilgrims to form comparisons Two KNAIJER'S PACIFIC
