The three performers sing harmonies and play a variety of instruments in an old-timey style. Their repertoire includes acapella gospel, Canjun two-steps and bluegrass favorites.

Alice Gerrard is known for her work with Hazel Dickens and Mike Seeger. Irene Herrmann performs frequently on the local scene in groups including the Bonny Doon String Band and Richardo Tunzi and Friends. "Bubble Magic' Tom Noddy. Jan Luby and the Travelin' Puppets will present an evening of comedy, music, puppetry and "bubble magic" Thursday at the Santa Cruz Art Center Theater (7:30 p.m.). Noddy.

Luby and the Travelin' Puppets have recently returned from a tour of the Pacific Northwest, where they joined forces with fellow vaudevillians the Flying Karamazov Brothers, fire-eater Moz Wright and the legendary Artis the Spoon man. Luby's music ranges from traditional blues to original, political and folk tunes. Noddy's Travelin' Puppets and "buble magic" are always crowd-pleasers. Noddy has recently added the "Mount St. Helens" bubble to his already extensive repetoire of bubble wizardry.

Tickets for this evening of "entertainment for a post-television generation" will be available at the Art Center door. NEW YORK (AP) -With "Dallas" on top for the eighth time in 10 weeks, CBS was a clear-cut winner in the networks" prime-time ratings competition, according to figures from the A C. Nielsen Co. CBS' margin of victory in the week ending Jan. 11 was slightly better than two points, 20.5 to 18.4 for run-nerup NBC and 18.3 for ABC.

A huge audience for "Dallas" contributed to the gap. The networks say CBS' rating means that in an average prime-time minute during the week, 20.5 percent of the nation's homes with television were tuned to the No. 1 network. CBS now has been first or tied for first six weeks in a row, while NBC's No. 2 finish was the network's second straight after nine consecutive weeks in the ratings cellar.

The rating for "Dallas," which until three weeks ago had spent seven weeks as the No. 1 program, was 33.9, nearly four points higher than the score for the runnerup show, the American Football Conference championship between Oakland and San Diego on NBC. Nielsen says the rating means of all the TV-equipped homes in the country, 33.9 percent saw at least part of "Dallas." The highest-rated of the season's new series was "Too Close for Comfort" on ABC, in 17th place, with CBS' "Magnum, P.I.," 23rd-and "Flamingo Road" from AT t-M JOHN BELUSHI DAN AYKROYD 4UNWFRSAIPCTURE WHVt SCREEN I ENDS THUR AT 7:00 10:15 AT 8:40 FLEA MARKET SAT SUN i I I PS mmMmmmm '''MMiiiiMiiwiiiiMMa in i- milium Hi iiiriiimaiiiiirftitiiii'iir Wi Rehearses For New Show NEW YORK Actress Lauren Bacall and one of her leading men, Eivind Harum, rehearse Tuesday for a new musical entitle "Woman of the Year."
