educated Master Farrar we are told was remarkable for a mild and even temper and his benignant light stroke of the rattan was a striking contrast to the severe blows of the button-wood ferule so vigorously applied by Master Lyon the tenor of the school Master Farrar was tho son of Itev Stephen Farrar the tin minister of Ipswich graduated at Harvard College in 17M He was horn December 8 1755 very neat ones at 50 cents Other qualities at 75 cents $1 to $4 and $5 A new three large vertical coils of wire the top padded so as to make draperies set soft and gracefully 40 cents One reason why Dunlap stands head and shoulders above all other American hatters is that lie not only creates his own shapes and styles hut makes the hats in his own manufactory Thus he knows exactly what sort of stock goes into each hat and that if goods are uot up to the standard his reputation will suffer Nearly all other prominent makes of hats take their name from some large retailer the goods in reality being made hy manufacturers without reputation Such work can never rank with that the production of which is directed aud governed hy one mind Such is the faith in the of the shapes of the Dunlap Hats that there are thousands of men who place orders in advance for his new shapes quite regardless of their being becoming or uot They know that a Dunlap Hat is never wrong iu the slightest particular and can be worn with absolute confidence as to style and quality It is a great thing for a manufacturer to establish such a reputation and it is little w-ouder that numerous small hatters are trying to follow in his footsteps latest styles in Felt aud Silk Hats will always be found iu our hat-room The Armstrong Electric Plant Likely to Be Established Here A number of San Francisco capitalists and business men headed by Oliver El dridge came up to-day to this city to look into the proposition heretofore made toward the establishment of ths Facitic Electrical works in Sscrameuto Mr Armstrong the established here The new enterprise has been described heretofore Its object will be the manufacture of electrical apparatus derate batteries for motors and for electric lighting etc A large number of been quietly at work in San Fraucisco of late for the purpose of considering the matter of indorsing or refusing to indorse aspirants to Federal positions in Cali- fornjfc This course is said to have been taken upon the suggestion of Stanford At the recent meeting of the Executive Committee a large number of applications or petitions for appointment have been considered Nearly all of these have been indorsed and either returned to the applicant or forwarded direct to the California delegation at Washington The rejections or rather simply failures to indorse have been but few and mainly upon the ground that the Committee was unacquainted with the applicant But one or two applications have been rejected because the Committee considered the candidate unfit for the office by reason of bis political record or incompetence The Committee has avoided In a measure assuming the position of indorsing but one candidate for an otfice and in some cases has indorsed five or six applicants for the same appointment This indorsement is in effect that the apnlicant is a good Republican a good citizen and competent to fill the office sought for BACIAHEST MARKETS SACOANaBTO Usrch 20 Butler 22 to and a technical charge relating to materials used by Wolfley in surveys in the Territory profession is that of civil engineering The tirst charge was made at tne instigation of Cohn and Brewsster Cameron of Arizona who own a large tract of land in the Territory It is considered the most serious They employed Woltiey for six weeks in surveying and clearing up the title He charged them $1500 of which $500 was for expenses The matter was finally compromised for $1000 after Woltiey offered to submit the matter to arbitration The general impression it that bis nomination will be confirmed at an cannot write a letter receive a stamp or sheeet of paper or travel a mile without be pays for it out of his faiary For tbe thirty-moth and fortieth fiscal years be received $1000 for stationery and
