suc- The Female The Metropolitan Theater was filled to overflowing last evening on the occasion ot the first-appearance in this city of Madame Female Minstre's and the Mabel Stantley Blonde Burlesque Troupe About one-third of tbe audienoe in tbe dress circle were ladies and the orchestra presented au almost unbroken surface ot ahiniug bald heads tbe owners of tbe latter taking this position on account of weak eyes no doubt Tbe success of the company was unqualified the entertainment was pleasing and varied abounding in humor and absurdity which kept the audience in roars of laughter and there was a total absence of any approach to vulgarity the action and language being chaste and decorous The costuming of the ladies is rich and elegant scanty enough to show to advautage the shapely figures of the female members of the company and the action of tbo latter is full of dash and vim The orchestra of five pieoes furnished excellent music Tho first part of the entertain sieut is of the minstrel style the ladies appearing in long dresses and a programme of comio and sentimental ballads being given interspersed with new and local jokes from Roche aud Allen tbe end men with Jas Maas as interlocutor The singing was generally good but that of Miss Louise Montague and Miss Ella Love was especially fine An olio of specialties follows introducing all tbe members of the company also Mile Ilosita Leoni6 a daring trapeze performer who exhibited much nerve last evening in continuing her performance aud remaining on the bar in mnl air while a large section of plaster fell from the oeiliug immediately above lier covering her with dust but fortunately not striking tbe lady Miss Viola Clifton appeared in songs aud lightning changes whioh were very good The Love Sisters were recalled frequently aud did some flue song and dance business also jigs and a double clog which brought down the house The entertainment concluded with the musical burlesque of Forty the entire oomoany taking part therein and a splendid exhibition of patience in card shullling being given by oue of the troupe who seemed always on hand aud turned up at all times an under the most laughable circumstances In tbe course of tbe piece Miss Louise Montague and Misa Mabel Sautley sang the By and in fine voice aud were encored therefor The entertainment throughout is a most enjoyable one the troupe possessess merit and is deservin of public patronage Mr Leavitt the manager has completed arrangements for receiving the returns from the city election as fast as the connt is made and this evening they will be read from the stage to the audience Bible Annual Meeting The Sacramento Couuty Bible Society held its annual meeting March lltli 1878 at 76 in the Sixth street Churoh Rev Briggs President of the deceased Pontiff Pius IX The front of the church was draped in monming colors of black and white intertwined festoontd and held in position with large rosettes A choir furnished appropriate music the building was entirely filled aud the panegyric was preached by the Rev John Cassidy Pastor of the Mission San Jose This is municipal election day and all tbe world is around the polls Folitios cut no figure in the eleciion Democrats are voting for Republioana and Republicans for Democrats The old parties are not sticking to their caudidat worth a groat The Workingmen are the only faithful among the faithless found as each wing cliugs to its own with splendid tenacity There are all kinds of opinions among all kinds of men AU admit that Turner is in the field and that somebody bas to beat bim if lie is to be beaten and the general opinion seems to be that Larne is that man while a large number think that that duty will devolve on Felter and a small number hold on to the opinion that Pearson will be second if not first at tbe outcome There seems to be no doubt of election for Fire Commissioner aod it is quite generally admitted that Stevens is likely to win the Chief of Police with Lee close at his heels The City Attorneyship is generally given to Young or Johuson but if the Turner ticket is running with the power that it is credited for Buckley may come close to if he shall not reach the mark the preparations The sun rose bright and warm this morning and at au early hour the Btreets of Satramento presented the usual bustling busy scene always noticeable in municipal elections where a close contest is looked for All Bides had had their say the merits of each candidate had been ably presented to the voters of the city their qualifications for ths several offioea had bee discussed and aired to tbe publio for weeks aud voters had no reason to say they knew not of tne antecedents and standing of the nominees for all the offioes At an early hour Chief Stevens posted the distance notions and Btutioncd Lis officers at the polls and the friends of the respective candidates arranged tables with tickets at convenient distances from the voting places At 8 the JudgeB of election announced that the polls were opened aud the votes commenced to go in Fur a short time after opening the run was pretty Bteady and the ballots dropped in thick aud fast due no doubt to the circumstance that many places of business rnillB and factories had not opened for the regular business preferring to give their employes au opportunity to vote and work fur such tickets as they saw fit A deep interest was manifested on all des throughout the iu fact never before has so much anxiety been seen on all sides aud never before were tbe guessers as to the result bo much at sea iu regard to the way things were running It was almost impossible to get any one to venture au opinion as to the result great caution being exercised by all in their statements On ail sides and at all places quiet prevailed few intoxicated men were seen ami the method of working ou voters was different from that heretofore tbe custom in that it assumed the form of pleading and argument as against the bustling bustling style The Workingmeu were out in foroe at an early hour aud bad their workers on duty at all points showing system throughout and previous arrangement of detail The Bepublioaus also showed signs of previous organization for the contest while the Democrats seemed to rely more especially on presenting best points aud their workers at the polls were in the minortiy At noon the railroad shops shut down all departments except the machine works aud the voting which had slack ened up to noon again became very live ly and continued to increase np to tbe hour of the going to press Ail sorts of rumors prevailed talk of combinations was plentiful but it was all guess work and foundation was wanting for the many stories which prevailed The antecedents of all the candidates were freely discussed the objection to Turner was strongly urged that he was not a taxpayer aud that his naturalization was of too recent date to warrant his being elected to tbe responsible position of Mayor of this city Uf course tbe interest was concentrated on tbe fight for First Trustee with Felter Turner and Larue running close and Pearson a bad fourth Much interest was also manifested in the fight for Chief of Police aud the friends of each of the candidates were out iu fuil force working like beavers There is one thing which has been noticeable throughout the eutire day aud that is that many Republicans aud Democrats are holding their votes back for the purpose of placing tin in favor of Felter or Larue in accordance with the strength which each develops aud fur the purpose of defeating Turucr and a large vote may therefore be looked for during the latter part uf the day Dennis Kearney President of the State Party is present at the pulls moving front one to the other urging tbe workingmen to vote aud work for the party nominees aud superintending mutters in general The polls will remain open till suu-down which according to the almanac will be at 5 minutes past 6 PRECEDING ELECTIONS I neorimrii i Ions The following companies have to-day filed their articles of Incorporation with the Secretary of State: Lucky Gold and Silver Mining Com pany of San Francisco capital stock $1000000 Hutchinson Brown Isaac Hessberg Louis Franconi and Max-Hellmau Grace Parish of Suisun City BoIsdo county Reeves John Gregory Wendell Owen Moran aud Saunders Sitting Bull Mining Company of San Francisco capital stock $6000000 li Bechtel Wm Lenf Wm Carr Tagliabae and Wm Stewart Effort to Have Pardon An effort is beiug made to obtain signatures to a petition to have Governor Irwin issue a pardon to Jack Denny who was at the December term of the County Court in 1876 sentenced to serve two years in Sau Quentin for grand larceny The petition will be presented to Governor Irwin by Hinksou attorney on Monday next Failed in tue Miss Kate Loreuce failed iu her undertaking of walking 50 miles in 10 hours which feat she attempted to accomplish last Saturday night at the Pavilion The walk was commenced at 1 and 11 o'clock at night the lady had walked but 40 miles She pluckily continued her walk however notwithstanding she was not feeling well aud was suffering from a Bevcre cold which had settled in the knee joints aud concluded her walk a short time before midnight tbe time being 10 hours 40 minutes and 15 seconds Her fastest mile was the twelfth which was made in 11 minutes From the time she started till the finish her rests aggregated 23 minutes and 42 seconds Dr 8 A Deuel and A Hopkins acted as judges Durmg the evening tbe attendance was large aud two brass bands furn shed music Notwithstanding the failure Miss Lorence feels confident of her ability to perform tbe feat Tbe four sets of Candidates are in the four upon each ticket a full Cotillion set and the band is blow in Gradually but certainly did nomination follow nomination until the whole was complete Tbe Bee reporter has been around and what he gathers: The first and in fact all were fair to middling even good hut some assert that like onto a grand occasion in times agone when the best wine was kept to the last the best roan for Trustee (or Mayor) has been kept to the last for mtny think that in consideration of the fact that there is much levee work to be done in the coming Summer that Larue is the best qualified man of the lot for this particular place So far as Pearson and Felter are known there is no doubt of their competency to fulfill the duties of the office in a respectable manner and Mr Turner who is less kn iwn than any of the others is vouched for by several as beiug entirely capable The battle looked to many yesterday as between Pearson and Felter but the injection of a fourth ticket into the contest upset many calculations and the figurers seem to be at sea so one thinks the battle rages most between Felter and Turner another that the contest lies between Felter and Pearson and another that Larue and Pearson have the office between them but none oau tell to whom it shall fal1 There seems to be no doubt that nomination will injure Pearson most and benefit Felder most by still more dividing the opposition to him hut still it may be set down as a fact that all is chaos and that only the people can bring order out of it -at the polls PERSONAL SKETCHES Now that all parties have placed tickets in the field to be voted upon at the election to be held on Tuesday next many inquiries are made among citizens relative to the respecive candidates who are aspiring to the several positions to be filled In order that voters may
