REDLANDS DAILY FACTS Tuesday. March 3, IM4 — 21 Mirrors Can Work Magic For Room Proper placement of mirrors can perform magic in h o m e adornment, transforming a cheerless room into a living picture. There are many new styles now available in various sizes, thoughtfully designed to blend in with contemporary or early period furnishings. Here arc some suggestions by Anne Winficid, Woolworlh's home adwser, that will bring surprisingly handsome results — and it's all done with mirrors! Before selecting a mirror consider proportion, scale and balance, keeping in mind that eye- level mirrors are most functional. A small square living room can be made spacious by using one mirror on an end wall and another on a side wall. If it's long and narrow, hang the looking glass on one of the "long" walls to give the room more width. Mirrors truly can become pictures reflecting your most cherished possessions, so place them to throw back favorite sections or objects in the room. Does your foyer have a dull, dark appearance? A mirror can bring light and color to it And remember, if the hallway is small do not overpower it with a large mirror. A small table or stand could set under the mirror witli an object of art or a vase containing flowers placed on it so that it is reflected in the looking glass. Be daring! Create a dramatic effect with an uninteresting hallway, closet or dressing room door by painting it an unexpected color, points out Woolworth's home adviser, and then bang a full-length mirror on the door. A full-length mirror framed in £old finish would be strilting against the vivid door color. Useful as well as decorative is a reflector on the wall of your bathroom facing the medicine cabinet. It's impossible to see how the back of your hairdo looks without running for a hand mirror. Friends, and members of tlie family, especially .teen-age daughters, wiU comment on your ingenuity. There are imframed oval, circular and oblong mirrors with white-leaf etching, appropriate for contemporary rooms, adds Miss Winficid. Oval wood-framed mirrors would create a perfect note for a soft feminine type decor and there also are Renoir portrait-type framed reflectors «}esigned for French Provincial furnishings. Another exciting style that would go with almost any decor is a circular mirror set in a square gold finish frame on a deep-red background. ilirror magic can bring your home out of the doldrums and you would be justly proud of the results. Important also is the fact that the mirrors belie their low cost. Pert and New An all-purpose shoe, the pert moccasin is seen in many sew colors and leathers this year. In addition to smooth, grained and patent leather, the classic moccasin is found in a new waxy leather. In brassy brown or golden green, the waxy leather moccasin is sweeping the study haU. Among the spring's favorite colors in all leathers are wildfire red, tulip yellow, deep blue and a varied assortment of bdf- es and browns. Well Cared For Floors Add Beauty Given specialized care, your floors become a decorative asset in any room. Since hardwood flooring requires a different kind of care than vinyl or linoleum, it is good homemaking to choose the right wax protection. If you have hardwood floors. renew them with an application of floor cleaner or cleaning wax especially designed for wood floors. Don't use self-polishing waxes — all of which are water-based—on your_ wood floors because the water can spot tlic wood and the wax will leave a plastic film that is almost impossible to remove. Self-polishing wax is specifically designed for resilient flooring. Included in this group arc linoleum, and tiles of solid vinyl asbestos, asphalt and nib- ber. These floors would be cleaned first with a mild detergent and water solution. Next, take off all the old, dirty wax with wax remover. To keep your resilient floors new looking, use wax remover periodically on them. After you have removed the old wax, finish these floors with two coats of self-polishing wax. This will protect them and make them shine. Your floors should be beautiful backgrounds for your priz- tnspect Sterag* Depend on a cedar chest to keep clothes safe from moths, but not if the lid of the chest is warped and not airtight In such a case, also use some type of moth preventative. ed and pretty rugs so give them a beauty treatment as often as necessary.
