The family of six could spread out in the nearly 7,000 square-foot property. Having four children with an eight- year age span, the home has an ideal layout.

The eight- bathroom house also has a casita. The kids have their own wing upstairs, and a space that was designed as a game room was turned into the perfect bedroom for their twin boys. Silverleaf, a pres- tigious north Scottsdale neighborhood full of custom homes, is also a comfort- able distance to the freeway, while ing panoramic city views. Rustic and comfortable design Though the home is large, Jessica and Paul designed it to feel warm and welcoming. wanted to keep the design true to Arizona and consistent with the outside of the Jessica said. She had to transition the home from a more formal Spanish colonial feel. Tabarka hand-painted patterned tile can be found throughout the house, adding to the charm and Southwest feel while maintaining a warm, welcoming vibe.

It even lines the front of the steps in the stairwell. wanted me to rip out the tile, but I said Jessica said. Warm-colored wood are found throughout the home, and unique de- sign elements such as a curved hallway to the make the house feel special. The Petelins worked with contractors KC Krew this past summer to update the kitchen and casita. As for design, Jessi- ca enlisted Jennifer Santini from Pot- tery Barn in Scottsdale.

The ceiling above the formal dining room is curved and covered in brick, and a long, rectangular dining table stands ready to welcome dinner guests. Touches of home A Colorado native, Jessica brought in touches of her roots to her Two large paintings grace their fam- ily room wall, paying homage to her time at University of Colorado, where she played tennis.

A Steamboat pillow par- hometown) can be found on a bench in the family room. One of Jessi- favorite family traditions is going skiing there. A family kitchen The kitchen is situated more towards the back of the house and is a refreshing change to the more modern open con- cept design so often seen. Instead of guests seeing the kitchen from the front door as in many the design makes the kitchen more of a des- tination: a sanctuary for the family. A breakfast room the kitchen leads to the backyard and hosts a round table with room for plush chairs.

The large blue island in the center of the kitchen is a perfect contrast to the white cabinets in the rest of the space. Open shelving near the stove adds a touch of the rustic, modern contrast to the traditional elements. The large space was used wisely by adding a bar and four stools facing a television over a Tabarka surrounded with a co- zy sitting area. A Christmas lover's dream Walking up to the front door, guests are immediately greeted with garland- wrapped pillars, Christmas lights and a festive wreath on a beautiful wood and glass front door. A 12-foot Christmas tree is in direct line of sight upon enter- ing the home, and the holiday experi- ence immediately begins.

Fur stockings line the holi- day pillows grace each chair and couch and large letters spelling sit on the mantel. A Nativity scene, snowman and Santa sit on the sofa table. Subtle touch- es of holiday are everywhere without seeming overdone. Jessica brings Christmas to the kitchen with a wreath hanging in the window over the sink, trees on the open shelving and wreaths on the back of the bar stools. A tiered tray with a Christmas mug collection that sits on the kitchen island adds to the festive impact.

A small, decorated Christmas tree stands next to the kitchen cre- ating the cozy and comfortable feel that Jessica seeks. Curated, accessible decor Jessica overspend on her de- cor. bought the bottle brush trees for the formal dining table from the dollar bin at she said. She also loves her holiday decor from Jessica gathered inspiration from In- stagram and magazines, picking up things that caught her eye, like a euca- lyptus garland from Joanna line at Target. With help, the ideas are implemented in a classic way.

Each of the Petelin rooms, from the 15-year-old to the twins, has their own small Christmas touches, from trees to bedding. The master bed- room receives its own holiday makeover as well, including artwork above the bed, garland and lights. Scottsdale family traditions Silverleaf, with its tree-lined streets and European-feeling garden spaces, is a dream itself, and the family especially enjoys it at Christmas. like to get in our golf cart, listen to Christmas music, drink hot cocoa and look at all of the Christmas Jessi- ca said. The active family also tries to time to make the short drive to Christ- mas at the Princess each year, taking advantage of another north Scottsdale tradition.

A beautiful backyard with a pool, sweeping city views from the upstairs patio, which also has an outdoor place, and the comfortable yet stylish design all lend for a perfect family home. Jessica and Paul managed to create a cozy yet spacious home for their active family. Know of a unique home in metro Phoenix that is not on the market that should be featured?
