Or does he compromise the defense and attempt to bring out the truth? Sounds like the basis for a pretty good movie but the is not it Director Bob Clark who cowrote the script with attorney David Kelley seems determined to give us a confused mediocre story one without any sense of purpose or an ounce of entertainment just one in a series of cockamamie movies by Clark including I and and Judd Nelson plays a young Boston lawyer named Robin Weathers who want to wait 20 or 30 years to get a partnership iri his prestigious law firm He feels the quick way up is to connive his way into courtroom assignments and then to act like a deranged child to attract attention to himself No one will notice Stormy believes that not offering any lawyerly wisdom that thrown ethics put the window important is that getting notoriety as if fans of the movies are being asked to forget every court- Special to The Bee Judd Nelson left uses outrageous tactics to defend accused killer John Hurt who has punched a man in the face The story is based on an actual winning not only the case but the case Florida in which a plumber partnership he covets Then Weath- accused of fatally stabbing an 18- MOVIE REVIEW (LUXURY WALKIN THEATRES THEATRE SHOWTIMES FOR TODAY ONLY AA Weekdoy judge refused and ended up sending the lawyer to jail for contempt The lawyer believed that following the order to defend the suspect would amount to 1 with no evidence that Clark ever paid any attention to this The director apparently believes that his style is more important than content Sadly style amounts to just being crass and ers defends a college prof (John Hurt) charged with the hammer killing of a prostitute and her pimp Hurt and the rest of the cast Elizabeth Perkins as the lover Ray Walston as the first judge Darren McGavin as one of unfriendly partners Nancy Marchand as the president of his law firm all seem to have been cast as foils for antics Nelson a bright talent as evidenced by his previous movies like Breakfast and is badly used by Clark and the script 1 6 1
