station's call letters and make sweeping changes in its personnel and programming At a press conference General Manager James Allen said Post-Newsweek Stations Inc new owner of the station had asked the Federal Communications Commission to approve a switch in identification from the present WLBW-TV to WPLG-TV The latter trio of letters in the proposed change Allen said will honor Philip Graham the late publisher of The Washington Post of which Post-Newsweek Stations is a subsidiary FCC approval is expected in about 30 days AT THE SAME TIME Allen and his executive staff detailed personnel and program changes which he said Post-Newsweek hoped would give the station "a more contemporary image and make it more The changes are effective Monday Jan 19 There were no out and out dismissals announced But there are reassignments of some previously key statisn personalities which may recently surrendered his news director title to Carl Zedell also formerly with Channel 4 is to be He is being replaced by Joseph Doyle who comes here from station WJXT in Jacksonville Tom Nugent remains as sports editor but his reports will be absorbed into a new format of newscasts which will get rid of the old compartmentalism of news weather and sports Walter Cronise will continue his weather reports MOLLY TURNER who had doubled as a newswo-man and public service director will confine her duties to news Public service will now be directed by Jack Moser Bill Bayer whose One Opinion editorial had been a daily news feature is being reassigned as political and urban affairs editor His
