'Those mechanics haven't been discussed and probably won't be for at least another game to Miami "because this will be the first significant event of the bicentennial year and will give great public impact to Miami to professional football and to the Super Bowl" Robbie added "We were satisfied that the game in 1975 be given to New Orleans to be played in the Superdome so the 1976 game could be played in Miami It's precisely what we requested and what was bid for by the Miami people who came to give Miami's invitation" Mr Prospector: The Gold Is in Breeding Shed The good news for turf students is that Mr Prospector will be shipped to Kentucky instead of New Jersey trainer Jimmy Croll's first destination The bad news is that the re- markable colt is unlikely to try the Kentucky Derby Granted Gulfstream's loam run wP raoY is ideal pe tor foGrarnftredontir may like Mr get excited over the classic potential 41'1110 of a three-year-old whippersnapper who has run in competition just three times and never beyond sprint 4067: -distance But if he never does anything else the colt left an indelible thrill with thousands who witnessed his awesome performance in upstaging the Florida Derby last Saturday The big crowd exploded in admiration as Mr JONES Prospector rolled like a subway train past the grandstand to a 9-length victory in the stunning time of 1:07 4-5 for six furlongs The American record is 1:07 2-5 To be sure Mr Prospector was running in promising though hardly first-rate allowance company But he has never been extended in any of his victories the others by 12 and six lengths He gives every indication of being something special Walter Blum his rider praises the colt as "a freak" Even Croll the Duke of Caution concedes that Mr Prospector has been winning "well within himself" Among the colt's admirers Saturday was A (Jimmy) Jones who trained Calumet's magnificent entry of Coaltown and Citation in the 1948 Kentucky Derby Citation the last Triple Crown champion was nearly beaten by his pacemaking stablemate in the slop at Churchill Downs The margin was 312 but there are those including Calumet employes who swear that Coaltown "waited" for Citation to get home that day in the interests of the big horse going on to the Triple Coaltown was primarily a speedburner all thought the fastest horse I ever had was Coaltown" Jones told Ed McKinsey Gulfstream's racing secretary "But don't think Coaltown could have warmed up this horse today He was never that quick" Amateurs and Pros ROBBIE said the Dolphins suggested and supported the idea of bringing the 1976 For Free: Fieldho use For UM? professional basketball and hockey franchises to the UM campus "We already have a pro hockey team and a basketball team lined up" he said He declined to name teams or leagues "We're going to have very sports-minded people with solid athletic backgrounds in our organization Such directors definitely will be announced within 10 days" Almost as intriguing to UM officials as getting a badly: needed facility for nothing is Marotta's "spur of the moment idea" about how to handle the obvious parking problems for such an on-campus arena "We'd build several floors for parking whatever Is needed atop the fieldhouse" Marotta said "We'd have a ramp circling the building which would provide the same type of parking facilities as now at Miami's airport "But it wouldn't look like a garage It would be beautiful And it certainly would provide a new concept in alleviating parking problems We'd require only about a fifth of the area that would be needed for a conventional fieldhouse's parking facilities" MAROTTA said he first thought of the rooftop parking after a Coral Gables city commissioner pointed out traffic and parking would be the primary drawbacks in getting zoning approval for such a structures "Our traffic flow in and out directly from US I by using an extended ramp (across Ponce de Leon Boulevard) to the proposed fieldhouse site (east of the baseball field and soon-to-be-built Knight Continuing Education Center)" UM President Henry King Stanford seemed startled Tuesday night to bear how full-speed-ahead the plans are of Marotta's group Marotta consultant engineer Cecil Rogers and Bob Trocolor Sr former New York Giants' lineman and father of an ex-UM lineman first broached their tentative proposal to Dr Stanford just last Friday during football practice "I introduced them to Walt Kichefski (assistant athletic director) and suggested he set up an appointment with Ernie McCoy our athletic director" Dr Stanford said "I'd rely on his advice before presenting any such proposal to the board of trustees "We would consider any serious proposition but I don't know enough about it to say any more at this time Other than that it's a happy thought" MCCOY said "Mr Marotta and his people are supposed to come down to see me at the end of the week There certainly would be a lot of fundamental questions to be raised "My immediate question is whether the university could have a structure put up on university property that was going to house a pro hockey team and pro basketball team I haven't the slightest idea whether university officials would consider that "I do know that the Baltimore Bullets play some of their home games at the University of Maryland's fieldhouse And that Harvard Yale and Michigan have allowed pro teams to come in and play at least one game for charity" McCoy sighed "it's all very intriguing" he said Marotta said Syntho-Tech Corp newly based In Fort Lauderdale is a conglomerate "We are in chemicals wield- ture the breeding shed Through 1971 he had sent 41 sons or daughters back to the races They accounted for 72 victories and $704822 including a 1969 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner in Majestic Prince Frank McMahon perhaps in gratitude for owning Majestic Prince bought a A Native yearling named Crowned Prince in 1970 for $510000 the record yearling price Crowned Prince was sent overseas became England's twoyear-old champion but developed a soft palate and couldn't hold a bit He was retired to stud last year syndicated for roughly $2 million The point is Sevin and Cm11 can hardly be faulted for babying Mr Prospector The glory may be at Churchill Downs but the money accrues from the boudoir Sevin has already syndicated Royal and Regal for breeding purposes at $50000 a share based on 36 shares or $18 million To get Royal and Regal Sevin put up $125000 and his mare Native Street for the good services of European champion Vaguely Noble Royal and Regal has already earned more than $160000 at the races Between the purses and the syndication he could finish dead last in the Kentucky Derby without losing much of Savin's affection Nor does Sevin seem to care that Mr Prospector must still cover plenty of ground before he returns his $220000 purchase price The three allowance victories have returned just $12275 If everybody is careful Mr Prospector can win a few more races and a lot more money before or if ever it becomes aLLessary to hook up with Secretariat Good a'edendais mean breeding dollars The only people short-changed are the ones paying $2 to get into the grandstand It seems a shame Billy Casper back hurts From Herald Wire Services AUGUSTA Ga Arnold Palmer began preparations for the Masters golf championship Tuesday with renewed vigor but not even the prestigious competition could make Billy Casper forget his aches and pains "I come to Augusta with a great feeling of pride" said Palmer "To me the Masters is all the things that accentuate what is good in golf" Casper who didn't win in 1972 because of a torn back muscle now is plagued by soreness in the back He said the pains were not related and described the new problem as a "spasm which is restricting me I can't move through the ball Casper quit the course with a back ailment after six holes and said he wasn't sure he would be able to tee off in Thursday's opening round "I will decide Thursday" Casper said "A pull developed in my rib cage on the right side and it became too painful for me to continue" "Maybe" joked Casper who will be 42 in June "I'm just getting too old" HOWEVER Palmer is almost 43 and having no thoughts that he might be over the hill even though it's been almost 10 years since he won a major when you're standing over the ball knowing the shot you have to make and then going ahead and doing it" AND THAT is his biggest problem going into Thursday's first round of one of the I world's four major tests of golfing greatness "My confidence isn't all that it should be" Palmer said needed a good tournament at Greensboro last week I didn't play badly actually played pretty well but I just couldn't make anything happen I'd get it right to the point where I'm ready to do something and then something would happen to make it just average "But there are some encouraging things about my game about the way it's coming along My long irons for example I'd been having a little trouble with them but last week I started hitting them pretty good "Now if I could just get my putting to something that resembles a decent stroke "Putting is mostly confidence and confidence is mostly mental" THOSE putting woes have been his greatest concern of the last two seasons a period in which he won but once That was in February when he pulled his game together and beat Jack Nicklaus for his fifth triumph in the Hope Classic another of his favorite events "It's difficult to explain" Palmer said "but I have something of the same feeling about Palm Springs that I do about Augusta Of course I've always pointed particularly for the Masters the US Open and the British Open Those are the big ones "But yes the Masters is something special even among these "A lot of good things and a lot of bad things have happened to me in the Masters I've blown a couple I should have won and maybe I've won when I was a little far out of position to win" FOUR times he has claimed the famed green jacket that goes to the winner of this tournament which he last won in 1964 Nicklaus matched that accumulation when he took the title last year He's favored to win again a spur to the immensely proud Palmer "Now more than ever I'd like to win the fifth one" Palmer said "If it's possible to have more incentive it's there It's not just that it's Jack that's won four If it had been anyone else well it'd be the same thing It's difficult not to try anew approach at the Masters not to get over anxious to try too hard get too keyed up" Palmer's head snapped upright as if jerked by a string and that fiercely competitive light flamed in his eyes when asked if he still is capable of winning the Masters "of course I am Absolutely There's no reason in the world I Palmer said before a practice round on the Augusta National Golf Course site of some of his greatest triumphs birthplace of the Palmer legend and initial recruiting-ground for Amie's Army "It's just a matter of confidence" he said "If I can get my confidence to where it was at Palm Springs where he won the Bob Hope Desert Classic earlier this year then I can do it "It's a feeling you try to get a feeling
