dare without trodding on someone's property Motorists either don't understand or don't care that this is quite a trial for both the horse and its rider and extreme caution is necessary to avoid scaring or startling the horse into becoming a runaway I do not advocate tooting the horn to let a horse and rider know a motorist Is coming This would be the worst possible thing However minimum speed should be reached be fore passing The same courtesy does or should apply to bike riders and pedestrians Anything at all is possible in even the most ideal situations person could stumble and a bike rider could hit a stone or a horse might spook into the path of a car At all times I think a motorist should give himself as much distance as possible for avoiding an accident A human life in the motorist's hands and this doesn't concern him he should lose his privilege to drive UNEASY RIDER Leave Early Generally speaking most crews seem to be late and very slow "leaving the barn" each morning and starting on their daY's assignment In the afternoon it appears to be just the reverse They leave the job site early and slowly move back to heanquarters just to sure of leaving on the dot quitting docated north of Charlotte on US highway 29 ME speedway hosts a variety of auto racing events each year on its I12 mile high-banked oval course a one-eighth mile drag strip and a 11'4 mile road course Its major attractions are the World 600 in May and the National 500 in October both for NASCAR Grand National stock cars Some improvement projects already have begun including constructing a 5000-sea grandstand landscaping enlarging victory lane and widening the main entrance way Long-range plans call for construction of a 14000-squarefoot office building paving of all roads on the speedway's 554 acres a remodeling of the press tower additional landscaping and additional seating parking and rest room and concession stand construction as needed "We don't have a strict schedule on some of the changes like additional park ing" said Bob Latford public relations director at the speed-way- "They will just be done as the need arises though we anticipate all these things being completed within five years" The new grandstand structured in steel and offering contoured seats is being constructed outside the first turn on the south end of the track Called GN Tower No 1 its 5000 seats will be priced at speedway's seating capactiy to 60958 New restroom and concession facilities are being built near the almost completed tower Continued on Page 28 Cot 2 Supplies Are By JAMES CUTIEBERTSON News
