Bittaker is charged with the torture-murders of five Southland teen-agers between June and November 1979. He faces a possible death sentence.

Subpoenas for the unused footage from interviews with Joseph Donald Jackson and David Lambert are being sought, according to defense attorney Lewis Titus, because of possible conflicting stories told to reporter Wayne Satz of KABC-TV and police investigators. Jackson originally went to police with the information Bittakers co-defendant, Roy Lewis Norris, had told him about the torture-murders of teen-age girls. Lambert had conversations with Bittaker while both were inmates in the county jail. Norris subsequently pleaded guilty to four counts of first-degree murder and one count of second-degree murder as well as rape and robbery charges. He escaped a possible death penalty in exchange for his testimony against Bittaker and is awaiting sentencing.

Attorney Kenneth Kulzick, who represents the television station, has already informed Titus and defense attorney Albert Garber that the station will resist all efforts to subpoena the outtakes.
