We had lived in the same house for many years and a son who lives in Jackson doesn't want me to live alone, but I like it there," she told me.

She had visited her daughter and husband who live in New York several times, but had always flown there. Since it was time for their yearly visit to Mississippi, the daughter insisted that she fly to New York and make the trip back by car across the United States, wanting her mother to see the countryside from the windows of a car. When I suggested that there must be a lot-of love in the family, else they wouldn't spend the time and money to come home to Mississippi once a year, her eyes gave me the answer. Questioning her about television, she said, "It Interferes with my reading. I only watch about three shows a week." She named a couple of variety shows and told me that she always watched "Lawrence Welk Show," even if she didn't have time for the others.

When I mentioned that Ralna English, one Weffe's featured singers, was from my hometown and that I knew her, her eyes lighted up. She asked for reassurance when she said, "I know they must be a very fine couple. You can just teH from looking at them." She was speaking of Ralna and husband, Guy Hovis, also a singer and a Mississippi native. How wonderful to know that as an entertainer, one can give so much pleasure to so many who find little else to enjoy in life. The satisfaction would not be ego- oriented, but rather a fulfillment of the soul.

Friends that David Canary made while he was appearing at the ABC Rodeo here will be unhappy to learn that he has been dropped from "Bonanza" for the coming season. His manager got into a salary dispute with the producer of the show and he has been written out of the show. Mitch Vogel, the M-year-old sensation of the movie "The Reivers," who was a Walt Disney discovery, will probably be his replacement. Filming has begun with that thought in mind. If Mitch doesn't work out, he will, of course, be replaced in time.
