heavily-favored Hialeah napping Saturday night The T-Breds heard their alarm in time to salvage a 32-20 victory at the Orange Bowl TUSCALOOSA Ala (UPI) Alabama riding quarterback Scot passing arm and the running of Johnny Musso and Pete Jilleba scored the first eight times it had the ball and trounced Southern Mississippi 63-14 Saturday Yardstick Yardstick Musso scored on runs of six and two yards and Hunter hit Jilleba from five yards out and scored himself on a one-yard sneak to spark the attack Flanker George Ranager ran for 11 yards for another TD while Bubba Sawyer went in from the 9 one-yard-line in the final 30 seconds with an insurance touchdown A- i WERE the worst team I ever saw We beat said Hialeah Coach Jim Powell played lousy and we were The Thoroughbreds led throughout but Miami High bounced back three times to remain within striking range Silvio two-yard run and a Cardose two-point conversion sweep sent Hialeah in front 8-0 late in the first period The Stingarees marched right back on an 80-yard drive supported by two 15-yard penalties Pete Aro-cha plunged the final yard but the junior halfback fell short on a run for two-points and the Stingarees still trailed Late in the second quarter i a 1 a Alex Brawner passed 1 1 yards to junior end Larry Voorhees' for the T-v second TD Lonnie Hennequin threw a two-point conversion pass to Don Johnston making it 16-6 Miami High closed again as Jose Todoroff recovered a fumble at the Hialeah 17 and the Stings ran off six plays in the final minute of the half No time remained when Todoroff scored from the one then passed on the conversion to Jay Bryan to close the margin to 16-14 DAN inter-ception set up third TD Branham returned Lefty throw to the Miami High 12 and Johnston ripped the final yard Cardoso ran for the conversion and a 24-16 lead The T-Bredf drove' 72 yards to the MHS 24 next time they got the ball but Todoroff scooped up a bad Brawner pitchout and hustled 64 yards for the third TD A run for two failed leaving it 24-20 The Stings fumbled away one chance at the Hialeah 31 in the final period and had another effort ruined by an ineligible receiver downfield before the T-Breds resorted to power running on their final TD march -Cardoso dominated the 14-play series which covered 80 yards and ran out the clock Cardoso gained 75 yards in 17 carries Hialeah totaled 252 yards total offense to 115 for Miami High but BraWner had two long passes nullified by penalties and the T-Breds were far from sharp in their final game before meeting Jackson next Thursday at Junior to score the winning touchdown and lead Wake Forest to a stunning 16-10 victory over favored Virginia Tech behind a fearsome defense The Demon Deacons down 10-3 at halftime battled back to knot the score 10-10 on a two-yard run by sophomore quarterback Larry Russell in the third period Leavitt the leading rusher with 84 yards in 19 attempts scored the winning touchdown with 8:31 remaining when he burst up the middle and outraced the VPI secondary Virginia Tech jumped to a 10-0 lead in the opening period getting its first touchdown after Wake Forest lost the ball on a fumble on its first Saturday night to assure a 46-0 rout of Blanche Ely at hart Stadium Miller connected on eight of 12 passes for 206 yafds and also ran for one toujh-down in the first quarter jas Plantation won its second straight of the year and handed Ely its second loss i first quarter touchdown and two blocked punt returns by the blitzing defense in the second gave Plantation a 20-1 halftime lead before
