is indignant that livermush's fame has been restricted the Carolinas Actually one reason he comes back to Charlotte is to load up with several pounds of liver-mush to tide him over the bland breakfast months in Louisville Nobody has any answer any explanation for this phenomenon Neese's Wilson's Jamison's all Carolina producers of sausage and livermush shed little light They know only that livermush has been a Carolina favorite for at least a century and that the receipe probably evolved from efforts of farmers at hog-killing time to utilize all parts of the hog Thus while souse meat (the diced fat of hogshead UGH!) is popular in the East and Midwest the mixture of ground liver hogshead cornmeal and spices is strictly a Tar Heel and Palmetto staple By these lights livermush should be declared the official state meat and it certainly deserves our best promotional efforts Livermush hors d'ouevres served I to out-of-state visitors certainly could hold their own with pate de fois companies from fixing gasoline prices Attorney General John Mitchell said the proposed judgment was filed in US District Court in Newark NJ The judgment becomes final in 30 days and will terminate an antitrust suit filed against the companies April 8 1965 The eight companies agreeing to the judgment are American Oil Co Atlantic-Richfield Cities Service Oil Co Cities Service Co Gulf Oil Corp Humble either liver-mush has no real social status You won't find it at the country clubs though most members undoubtedly were brought up loving it along with "soup beans" You'll find it in the markets and you'll find it in the hard-hat diners A few years ago only one downtown eatery had livermush on the menu The owner the late "Mac" McKinnon explained that it was a sentimental thing him When he was a
