26-D Springs Gazette Telegrupli Saturday, IViay 22. 1976 CaTtette Telegraph Phetn JOHN Paefsch Family Chamber Music Ensemble: Brigitte, Michaela (solist), Phebe, Gunther and Johann Paetsch Family Concert on Sunday The Paetsch Family Chamber Music Ensemble will give a concert at 8 p.m. Sunday in the Fine Arts Center Theater. The concert is sponsored by the Fine Arts Center. Michaela Modjeska Paetsch, 14.

soloist and first violinist of the ensemble will be the featured soloist, playing the violin concerto in A minor by Johann Sebastian Bach, the violin concerto No. 2 in major by Joseph Hayden and the A by Antonio Vivaldi. On the second half of the will be the Se.xtet op. 18 in major for two violins, two violas and two celli by Johannes Brahms. Michaela, who in early May of this year gave three ances of as featured soloist with the Colorado Springs Symphony under the direction of Charles Ansbacher, is the youngest member of the Colorado Springs Symphony in its history.

She won both the Colorado Springs Young Artists contest and the Pueblo Young Artists contest when she was 12 years old and appeared at that age as featured soloist with the Colorado Springs Symphony, the Pueblo Symphony under Gerhard Track and the Jefferson Symphony In Denver. At age 13, Michaela w'as again the featured soloist with the Colorado Springs Symphcwiy in a series of school concerts. Last summer she was given a scholarship by Colorado Springs Symphony Guild and Mr. and Mrs, George V'raden- burg to study in Meadovvmount in upper New York State with famed violinist Ivan Galamian. This summer she will be at the Music Festival of Marlboro at the personal invitation of James Busweli, recent soloist with the Colorado Springs Symphony.

The Paetsch Family, headed Priscilla and Gunther Paetsch, includes seven children, ranging in age from five to 16. All the children with the exception of the youngest, Sieg- niund, attend Cheyenne Mountain Public Schools. Paetsch studied in Putney School. Bennington College, the University of Wyoming and the Asfien Institute of Music, majoring in violin, chamber music and composition. She has written violin sonatas, string quartets and trios, choral compositions and a symphony for full orchestra. Paet-sch taught at the University of Wyoming and Colorado College. She is now teaching viohn, viola and chamber music privately. Paetsch, a native of Germany. received his degrees from tiie Free Waldorf School in Stuttgart and from the Universities of Munich and- Tubingen. He was principal cellist of Munich and Tubingen or- where he played under such conductors as Karl Richter, Carl Orff and von Dadel- sen.

His teachers include Wil helm Hadeiich and Caspar Cassado. Since coming to this country in 19a9, Paetsch has been a member of the Colorado Springs Symphony, where he also served as principal cellist for many years. He is founding member of the Colorado Springs String Quartet and the Baroque Players. He leaches privately and at Colorado College. For the last five years the Paetsch Ensemble has performed classical music for thousands of Coloradans throughout the state and especially to residents of Colorado Springs, including thousands of school children.

Since that time the ensemble has given their services for fund-raising projects and to the community in Public Library, in the Fine Arts Center. for Uie Symphony Guild, on television for numerous churches and civic organizations as well as for the City of Colorado Springs in its celebration of Heritage Day at the old ourt House also gave the first live pre.sentation of classi- ca' music in the history of Colorado Springs on KKFM Radio. The ITietsch Family Cil to enthusiastic audiences at the University of Colorado in Boulder, at Colorado Women.s College in Denver, at the Fine in Pueblo, togetiier with the in Golden at State College in Alamosa, where they received standing ovations.
