2-E THE MIAMI HERALD Friday June SO 1967 Dirty Dozen ? Stirs Tenseness and Shock Z Bv GEORGE BOt RKE Herald Amusement Editor ONCE every decade or so the film-makers of Hollywood get around to making a war - picture w hich becomes memorable because it gets deep under the skin of those who perform in war rather than dwelling 1 solely on the progress of the - battleline warring itself : “The Big Parade” “All Quiet on the Western Front” - “What Price Glory” “A Walk in the Sun” and “Guns of Navarone” were a few MGM which started the cjcle with “The Big Parade” in 1924 adds another screen saga of soldiering to the list in “ITie Dirty Dozen” Oh it has a climax of terrific firepower and brutal overkill that will match anything you’ve seen as a demonstration of the hellishness of war But in the main its footage is pre-battle stuff concerned with people — very unusual people — and their very unusual preparation for a very unusual military operation That explains the reason for the star-power of the cast MGM and the producer-director team of Kenneth Hyman When Films Begin These schedules are published °oo °noo iVoo c‘ as submitted by theater managers BAY HARBOR -
