industrialist Maurice Ferre a 1 Democratic nominee for Florida House of Representatives plan is to go into Spanish-language telecasting with a studio located on the top of Ferre family owned 30-story building at 100 Biscayne Blvd Thus far the plans are hung up in technical difficulties particularly one of where to locate a TV antenna There's no telling when Channel 39 will get on the air It seems ahundantly clear that UHF programs are not going to reach home set in a hurry Your home set incidentally if its manufacture antedates May 1964 and has no UHF chan- nels built into it would require a channels in Greater Miami Total allocation however doesn't necessarily mean ln-s a 1 1 expanded service Television viewers have a waiting period- of many months before several of the new licenses particularly those with UHF channels can get their stations on the air The earliest new addition to commercial station ranks will be XCIX-TV Coral Television station which will operate on Channel 6 the last of the VHF channels here The facilities are under construction and it hopes to start in early fall The real lag TV service is would be UHF broadcasters To refresh memories incidentally UHF is ultra high frequency television It has 70 channels from 14 to 84 in its broadcast spectrum requires high transmission power and is shorter in its broadcast range than VHF (very high frequency) television The latter has only 12 channels in its spectrum and is most commonly in use in this country UHF stations flourished for awhile in the early days of TV but as VHF competition grew the UHF'ers began to drop out in most markets Manufacturers of home receivers tended to turn out sets with only VHF channels Inf pres in UHF broadcasting was revived In 1964 when under the spurring of the FCC Congress decreed all home receivers after May of that year must ba manufactured "with UHF as well as VHF channels incorporated in them The UHF revival however was not sensational in proportions But applicants did appear and the FCC granted permits with far more felacrity than it ever handed out VHF permits briefly the background on the UHF situation and here Ls a breakdown on the status of
