separate investigations under way Saturday into the kidnap-slaying of 7-year-old Judith Ann Roberts with none of them getting anywhere fast No one wanted to be quoted on the subject but the crux of the situation appeared to be discontent on the part of investigating officers with State Attorney George handling of the case Mr and Mrs James Roberts parents of the slain girl returned to their Baltimore home Saturday by automobile Both came here voluntarily at state expense for last inquest into the case Also reported out of town was Mrs Dorothy Lawrence companion on a night-club tour the night Judy Ann was 6lain last July 7 She was flown here from Orlando at state expense One veteran investigator wanted to know Saturday why Brautigam went to the expense of returning all the key witnesses to Miami for an inquest which determined-only what they already knew that Judy Ann died from strangulation The three investigations are being carried out by office sheriff's depu-ties and Miami homicide detectives The deputies are reportedly unhappy that no indictment was asked of the Dade county grand jury while all the key witnesses were in town They apparently believe they have enough evidence and witnesses to warrant an indictment have worked on the case for two said Deputy Earl Venno we have gathered every possible bit of evidence and rounded up every possible witness We feel that if we worked a whole year on the case we uncover any more unless the guilty person should Venno and his partner William McCrory made one trip to Baltimore irv their probe of the case at a cost of $485 McCrory made a second trip alone turning in expense vouchers totaling $140 For their part Miami homicide detectives urging an immediate indictment Their gripe appears -to be their feeling that they getting the proper cooperation from office It was learned that they were given no opportunity to interview Mr and Mrs Roberts while they were in Miami for the inquest No city detective would say that the Roberts were hidden from them but their reaction indicated the way they felt Brautigam interviewed the Roberts on at least two occa sions during their stay here City and county investigators reportedly made any happier when Brautigam chose to brief the grand jury on the case Farm Price Probe Urged By Trainmen A resolution urging a probe of why retail prices of foodstuffs are commitments to strive for economic equality political equality and an equal share in the facilities afforded by the community for all persons regardless of race religion color or nation al About 150
