Adv.) strong-Jones is a charming young man with golden hair and big blue eyes. He is colorful, but not flamboyant. He has been a bit of a Bohemian, but not in eccentric manner. He used to give midnight parties in his arty basement apartment, but they were never the wild abandoned revels that some people imagine. He is a witty commentator on people, places and things, but lacking the mature wisdom or wit of a man of the world.

Tony is 30. He is known and liked by widely varying people London loughies, wan young men, debutantes, styi ishly sloppy juveniles, actors and actresses, exotic beauties, and aristocrats as well as average sub jects of the crown. Although highly attractive to women he was until he wooed Princess regarded by girls as the marrying kind. Yet among this varied circle of friends few, if any, ever have been known to say they don't like him. In describing him they invariably use the word charming.

Four years ago he pointed a camera at the duke of and fate stared over his shoulder. With that snap of a shutter he was on his way down the royal road of romance. The then 21-year-old duke liked what Tony's camera did for his hardly classical features. More important, perhaps, the she would be 30, the spinster princess not only liked Armstrong- Jones' portrait, but liked bachelor Tony. They had met earlier at a party.

Tony's success in life began with a he flunked his examinations at Cambridge. Tony became an apprentice to the late Baron Nahum, a photographer to the royal court. He applied himself and set. himself up in a former hardware shop in London's unfashionable Pimlico section. Here he took pictures, entertained friends, did his own cooking and threw gay parties, some noisy but not naughty, As a child Tony had polio.

In overcoming a slight limp he developed a rapid, almost bounding way of walking. But no one ever called him a bounder. He and actress-model Jack Chan were very close friends. Another great friend was Jane Baker, 24-year-old niece of Lord Bridport. "You know," she once recalled "Tony just didn't seem the marrying kind." that's the way he likes to be 5-feet-4 and slight with a head like an Adonis In his active photographer days he dressed in tight-fitting jeans or cavalry twill slacks and a large bulky sweater.

He did not like ties. Now all this has changed. As the man who will marry the Queen's sister, he wears dark tailored lounge suils and always a tie. As the husband of Princes MRI-- But some who know the princess say he may have other wor- ies. She is headstrong and outspoken.

She can sulk, fume, flash per pale blue eyes, stomp her tiny feet and wither listeners with sarcasm. But she can also be graci friendly and entertaining. They appear to be deeply love. One of the persons to whom the duchess spoke was Queen Elizabeth 11. Impressed, the Queen commissioned Tony to photograph her children, Prince Charles and Princess Anne. Tony scored a royal double and then parlayed this into a commission to take Princess Margaret's official birthday photograph.
