Johnson is believed to have transported several youths from Los Angeles to Houston for use in films and as sex partners for adults. The boys were normally flown back after the filming. Both Reynolds and Strait allegedly made movies of boys engaged in various sex acts and sold the films for a profit. It is on this type of commercial enterprise vice officers originally started investigating, said Sgt.

Francisco Jose DeSoto, 43, of Woodland Hills, was arraigned Friday afternoon on numerous sex charges. He was a teacher for 17 years. Ultimately, more than 25 adults are expected to be involved in the ring. The 14 persons indicted Thursday have been charged with more than 100 sex violations.

Grodin said the investigation began with the arrests of Reynolds and Strait, Sept. 1. Vice officers were given a film showing homosexual acts between young boys and the film had the name and address of the producer, believed to be Strait. During a surveillance of Straits house, officers spotted two boys loading material into a van. The youths had appeared in the film and officers went to the house and arrested Strait and Reynolds.

During an interview, the boys told officers the names of other youths involved in the films and the names of some of the adults with whom they had had sexual relations. Grodin said the investigation snowballed with every boy leading officers to another boy or adult. Nearly 30 officers from the Los Angeles Police Department and the county sheriffs department coordinated the investigations through Grodin. Using address books obtained from Strait and Reynolds, Grodin said, investigators located other adults, who in turn had address books with different names. Also confiscated when Strait and Reynolds, a truck driver, were arrested were numerous reels of film, still pictures and books.

Strait is believed to be one of the largest producers and distributors of homosexual films involving youths in the West He is the owner of the D.O.M. film company, Grodin said. Reynolds, who along with Strait was indicted earlier on similar sex charges in Concord (near San Francisco), apparently is one of the major contacts for boys used in the films. Grodin said Reynolds, who has (lone film work for a Houston-based company, apparently helped transport children from San Francisco for use in homo-sual movies in Los Angeles.
