DAILY WORLD, VANCOUVER, B. CANADA. Monday, December 2, 1889. The World OFFICIAL PAPER OF THE CITY MONDAY. DECEMBER 2, 1889.

So rapid has the circulation of THE WORLD increased within the last few weeks that the publishers have found it necessary to increase the printing capacity of the establishment. Within the last few days a splendid of machinery--the best and most piece complete machine of any kind in the Province-a folder, having a capacity of 3,000 copies per hour, has been placed in the pressroom and set in operation. So complete is this machine that it will fold, paste and trim an eight page paper of the size of the WEEKLY WORLD, or the sinallest dodger. In the beginning of the incoming week a splendid Hoe rapid printing press--the largest in the Dominion-will also be set to work. Its capacity is only limited by the ability of the operator to feed the sheets.

These with the plant we previously possessed will make THE WORLD the best equipped newspaper publishing house outside the largest cities of the Dominion. It is the publishers' intention to issue about the New Year a magnificent Bird'sEye View of Vancouver, specially prepared for THE WORLD at an enormous cost. The sheets to hand indicate what may be proof expected of those having the engraving of the work in hand. A similar work will also appear for the twin sister city of New Westminster. Both of these, we feel, will be appreciated not only as works of art, that they will be of great advantage to both cities, the District of New Westminster and the entire Province.

Other features will also be taken advantage of in rendering the proposed special issue the most acceptable and valuable publication which has yet been issued by any in the Dominion. A large expenditure of money, labor and newspaper ingenuity will be expended in connection with the forthcoming number. Preparations have been made for an issue of 10,000 copies in excess of our regular publication. Already the orders hand will almost consume that edition. Persons in want of a supply should order at once, SO as to avoid disappointment.

A limited number of advertisements will be inserted. Application for space should be made carly, in order to secure choice positions. Further particulars can be learned on application, by letter or personally, PUBLISHERS' NOTICE. THE WORLD OFFICE, Vancouver, B. C.

The Islanders had the best of it during the first half, but on the home stretch the Mainlanders' flag crept to the front and finished two lengths ahead. Odds in betting were on McLean and Murray from the start with few takers. McLean now wants to row Paine, of Victoria.

The ss. Walla Walla came in at noon yesterday from San Francisco, with no passengers and 36 tons of freight. The consignees were: Bell Paterson, Oppenheimer Bros, Creighton Frazer, Dunn Co, Fales (New Westminster), Crowder Penzer, McMillan, Capt Pederson, barque Margaret, Crean Fleming, Vancouver Gas Co, McDowell, Cunningham (New Westminster), Henderson Couth, Wilson, Vancouver Soap Co, McMillan Co. CUSTOMS ORDER SUSPENDED Pending the Consideration of Victoria's Protest Against It. As a result of the strong representations inade to Ottawa by the Victoria City members, a telegram received on Saturday by the Collector of Customs from morning the Department at Ottawa, stating that it had been decided to accede to the requests for a suspension of order respecting the kandling of Canadian bonded freight in transit to Victoria by American steamers until the representations made by the members of the Board of Trade and the Dominion Parliament could be fully considered at Ottawa.

The telegraphic order received by the Customs authorities is to the effect that Canadian bonded freight in transit over American lines to Victoria, and which passed through Duluth prior to the 23rd of November, may be received in Victoria through the regular channels providing it reaches that city not later than December 21st. The Colonist says that it is hoped before the time specified has elapsed the objectionable order will be rescinded. The twenty-eight carloads of bonded freight which have accumulated at Tacoma since the order was put into force will be brought to Victoria to-day by the Olympian, and the old arrangements will be resumed. This is somewhat of a victory for Victoria. THE WORLD has, unlike some of its meddling Mainland contemporaries, not seen the necessity of entering the fight.

It is 3 purely Island one, and we have enough up here to do to look after our own affairs. Those, however, opposed Victoria's interests in the matter will now have ample opportunity to muse on the fruitlessness of their malicious scribblings. An estrangement of lovers was the cause of the sad suicide of Peter Cameron in Victoria on Saturday night from drinking laudanum. Cameron had fallen irrevocably in love with a widow named Mrs. McDonald and they had become engaged, but a qurrrel arose.

Cameron circulated damaging stories about his former love, but finally repented and sought a reconciliation. Mrs. McDonald would not renew the engagement and Cameron choosing death rather than rejection, took a dose of laudanum at a gateway on Quadra Street from which he was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital where he died in two hours. Self-Accused.

As the individual who mismanages the News-Advertiser had the audacity to say on the streets to-day that that paper did not state that Mr. Alexander used the expression "tag-rag and bob-tail" at the Saturday night meeting, but on another occasion, the following is quoted from his own paper to refresh his memory which, it is said, liars require to have very long: "Strong indignation was expressed at the report which reached the meeting (Mr. Templeton's) from Mr. Oppenheimer's Committee room of Mr. Templeton's supporters being of there the referred city." to as Words the speak.

On Saturday evening the Imperial Opera House was fairly well filled by an appreciative audience, to witness C. T.

Dazey's charming comedy -drama, entitled Gay Howard, as presented by Miss Katie Putnam's excellent company. In the first act, in which a plain understanding was arrived at, the leading role of Gay Howard was well taken by Miss Putnam, who was not only gay by name and nature, but brimful of genuine wit and good-humor. Her impersonation of the tragic scene in Romeo and Juliet was very good, which may also be said of the many girlish pranks and whims through which she went, to the delight of the audience. Mention might be made of the acting of Mr. Fid Page, as a comedian, in the character of Samuel Smirks, who always lived in the hope of being the lucky winner of the capital prize in the Louisiana lottery.

It is needless to say the balance of the company well 811S- tained Miss Putnam, who will always be welcomed back to Vancouver with a full house. THE LIE NAILED. We the undersigned citizens of Vancouver were present during the whole meeting on Saturday evening and heard everything that was said by the Chairman and other speakers, and unhesitatingly assert that neither the expression itself or any remarks reflecting 011 the character or position of either Mr. Templeton or his supporters were made use of and the statement appearin the issue of the News-Advertiser of December lst is in every respect untrue. Now, if Your Lordship will adjust your wig and recover from your deep studies of Blackstone and the laws of estoppal, you will be able to see that the four Judges who threw your case out of Court last April were fully able to comprehend the diffence between 526 REGISTERED and Preemption Record 1003, this being the NUMBER of my land on English Bay, twenty-three members of the Legislature having voted a crown grant for the same. Come down and see 118.

I have a few corner lots (with a smattering of coal) vet left. I mean to sell, and the public will persist in buying them, notwithstanding Your Lordship's decision.
