One had bought the bread Monday at a district service station- grocery without being recognized. Temperatures had dropped to near 44 degrees Monday night while They are due for arraignment Monday before Judge Joel H. Sharp in Common Pleas Court, along with three other men who turned down their invitation to flee the jail, and the remainder of the 11 indicted by the jury last Thursday. The trio apparently turned up their cell radios to drown out the noise of the sawing. Economies in the financing of the jail may have attributed to their escape.

A pickup system had been planned but it was cut out for lack of funds. The system picks up every noise throughout the cells and relays it to the office. The bars they sawed were of low-carbon steel. High-carbon steel was used on the main cells but the cheaper iron went into the bullpen bars because the jail attendants usually are within sight of the enclosure. A jailor who made the rounds between 9:30 and 9:45 Saturday night discovered the break.
