"THE ARIZONA KICKER." Oi'R Way. Now that there is every likelihood of our being nominated for State Senator certain persons aro wondering if we are going to let go the Mayoralty. In the language of Cicero, not much. We learned long ago that in climbing a ladder a man should not let go with one hand until he gets a firm grip with the other. And we may go further than that and announce our intention of hanging on to what we have and getting whatever else we can.

We fondly believe that we have tho brains to serve ns, as editor, Mayor and Senator at the same time, and we'd be willing to take the i'ostmastcrship on top of the heap. If a man strikes the right sort of gait out here he finds it a great country to develop his brain power. We've developed. We not only want office, but the people wiitd to have it, and under such conditions we see no reason wdiy we shouldn't be called "Governor" three or four years hence. We know plenty of editors who claim to be modest and retiring, and who urge that they have no time to servo the public in an official capacity.

We don't belong to that class. If there is anything good floating around we want it, and modesty wont stand in ttio way of our getting it. We've also got lots of time at our disposal, and our fellow countrymen can't heap any more honors on us than we can take care of. A House on Us. AVCLFFSOIIN KK, I.1. lm WE COMH.IEP. contemporary is cackling and the boys around town grinning over our little adventure last Saturday night, but we fail to where we made a fool of ourself. At 8 o'clock we left our office to call at the abode of Widow Spooner.

We may as well admit that we aro sparking the widow with a view to matrimony, and have reached the head of her procession of admirers. In i changing our clothes we forgot our gun, and were just half way through the cut at Murray Hill when somebody jumped out of tiio darkness and ordered us to throw up i our hands. WTe complied. We didn't wait to discover the source of the Mississippi Kiver or figure on tho popular vote for the Presidency, but up went our hands then and there. We recognized tho voice as a baritone belonging to French Joe, the cowboy, and we also had the advantage of knowing that Joseph always shoots plumb center and without wasting valuable time.

We think our seeming desiro not to detain Joseph longer than necessary counted in our favor. As mayor of the town we have driven him into tho suburbs on four or five different occasions. Once wo raked his head with a bullet, and once we split his left ear. Naturally enough he sighed for revenge. When Joseph saw that he had the drop on us ho ejected saliva on our Chicago plug hat, Later on, for his especial amusement, we knelt down and sang a song.

When he ordered us to eat grass wo felt that we were lucky in not having to eat sand. It is no use in denying that Joseph toyed with us and had heaps of fun at our expense. lie is a humorous cuss and did a great deal of laughing. Ho wanted an excuse to bore haif a dozen holes in our anatomy, but we didn't furnish him one. He kept us pretty busy for about an hour and then gave us a vacation.

It is needless to say that we accepted his kind offer mid put a mile between us as speedily as possible. There may bo something to laugh at, but we don't see it. When a man gets the drop on us that ends it for tho time being. W7e propose to do all the crawling ho demands. Joseph had ns dead to rights, and we feel that we did tho right thing in the right place.

It will be our turn next, however, attending to our duties as mayor and looking for Joseph at the same time. We shall find him within a few days. We are no sport, but we've got $200 to wager, even up, that we plant French Joe in our private grave vard within the next 10 days, unless he dies of heart failure or leaves the country. M.
